Job summary

Elanco seeks a Senior Director, Business Development to lead end-to-end BD transactions, including M&A and licensing, shaping the company’s growth portfolio. You will partner with Legal, Finance, and executive leadership to drive value and strategic flexibility while building external relationships across the animal health landscape.

The role requires 8+ years in BD/strategy within pharma or biotech, an undergrad degree in a relevant field, and a track record of closing big deals.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree (BS) in a relevant scientific or business field.
• Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in BD, corporate development or strategy within animal health, pharma, or biotech.
• Proven ability to lead and close complex transactions (M&A, licensing, partnerships) with strong financial modeling and negotiation skills.
• Ability to build and maintain high-level external relationships and align cross-functional internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end strategy, structuring, and execution of complex BD transactions (M&A, licensing, JVs) to grow revenue.
• Lead term sheet and contract negotiations with Legal and Finance to safeguard enterprise value and IP.
• Own the transaction business case, financial models, and valuation frameworks; champion deal recommendations to governance.
• Direct cross-functional diligence teams (R&D, Legal, Finance, Commercial, Manufacturing) to assess fit, risks, and integration readiness.
• Build and manage external partner relationships; provide strategic insights on industry trends and opportunities.
