Job summary

Rocket Lab's Space Systems team is seeking a Senior Digital Payload Engineer I onsite in Long Beach, CA. You will lead digital payload product development from concept through inflight operations, including board layout, bring-up, qualification, and production, applying RF engineering, SoC design, and DSP expertise.

The role requires a BS in engineering and 5+ years in space electronics, with strong DSP and high-speed interface skills. U.S. citizenship is required for program eligibility.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in space electronics with expertise in high speed serial interfaces (SPI, PCIe, Ethernet), SoC, microcontrollers, and DSP.
• Experience delivering a digital product from requirements to prototype through production.
• Detailed knowledge of digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms and communication theory.
• U.S. citizenship required due to program requirements.

Responsibilities

• Define and maintain requirements specifications.
• Architect the digital product design.
• Design and prototype the digital product including component selection and PCB layout.
• Develop test plans and procedures for the product.
• Support the development of GSE and production automation.
• Create product documentation including ICDs and User Manuals.
• Coordinate with Test Engineers and Manufacturing Engineers for New Product Introduction.
• Review proposals and requirements specifications to assess compliance.
• Drive development activities for new requirements and participate in engineering reviews (PDR, CDR, TRR).
• Provide technical support to internal/external customers and troubleshoot anomalies.
• Maintain awareness of development and production schedules to meet customer needs.
