Job summary

Helion, based in Everett, WA, is seeking an experienced materials scientist to lead development, validation, and deployment of advanced ceramic and dielectric materials for extreme electrical, thermal, and radiation environments associated with fusion power systems. This onsite role reports to the Materials Science Manager and drives projects from concept to production readiness.

You will define requirements, execute characterization experiments, and translate results into actionable design

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years hands-on work with insulating and dielectric materials.
  • Experience with electrical testing and materials characterization; design and interpretation of experiments.
  • Experience developing or qualifying ceramic or dielectric materials for large engineering systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead multidisciplinary projects to develop and evaluate electrical performance of dielectric materials for high-voltage fusion-relevant conditions.
  • Define electrical requirements, test methods, and acceptance criteria for insulating materials used in high-field magnet systems.
  • Design and execute experiments to characterize dielectric strength, resistivity, permittivity, and dielectric loss under combined loading.
  • Translate test results into engineering requirements and design recommendations for next-gen fusion systems.
  • Serve as subject-matter expert for dielectric materials in high-voltage environments and guide cross-functional teams.
  • Own projects from concept through prototyping, reviews, and production qualification.
