Job summary

Rocket Learning is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to own our infrastructure and lead a three-person team. You will design secure, highly available systems across AWS and GCP, owning MongoDB Atlas provisioning and backups, and driving IaC with Terraform/Ansible.

You will build observability stacks, define SLIs/SLOs, and maintain CI/CD pipelines while mentoring the team and collaborating with engineering, product, and security. This role emphasizes security and mission impact.

Qualifications

• 8–10+ years in DevOps/SRE/Infrastructure
• Experience leading or mentoring a team
• Strong hands-on experience with AWS, GCP, and hybrid/on-prem environments
• Proven track record self-hosting and operating open-source infrastructure tools in production
• Solid grounding in security and privacy engineering
• Experience with Kubernetes, Terraform/Ansible, and modern CI/CD
• Strong Linux administration and scripting (Bash, Python or Go)
• A genuine interest in our mission and ability to communicate across technical and non-technical teams

Responsibilities

• Design and operate secure, highly-available infrastructure across AWS and GCP
• Own MongoDB Atlas end-to-end (provisioning, scaling, backups, performance tuning)
• Drive infrastructure-as-code (Terraform/Ansible) for consistency and reproducibility
• Build observability stacks (metrics, logs, traces) and intelligent alerting
• Define SLIs/SLOs and serve as a senior escalation point for major incidents
• Maintain CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins/GitLab CI/GitHub Actions) with gates for quality and security
• Manage Kubernetes-based container orchestration and automate routine ops
• Lead and develop a team of 3 DevOps engineers, building processes and mentorship
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and security teams to align work with mission
