Job summary

Phoenix Ops Group in JBSA-Lackland, TX is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to design, deploy, and secure cloud and on-premises infrastructure. You will work with AWS, Kubernetes, and IaC to automate deployments and maintain scalable systems.

The role requires TS/SCI clearance, deep Linux administration, and strong scripting (Python, Bash, Go). You will collaborate with software teams to ensure reliability and compliance in a mission-focused environment.

Qualifications

• Active TS/SCI U.S. Government security clearance.
• U.S. citizenship required due to security clearance requirements.
• 9+ years of relevant experience with a related degree; or 7+ with a master's; or 13+ with HS.
• Strong Kubernetes or comparable container orchestration experience.
• AWS experience including EKS, EC2, EBS, S3, and Lambda.
• Infrastructure-as-code and configuration-management with Terraform and Ansible.
• Experience deploying and maintaining apps, containers, and Linux systems.
• Programming or scripting with Python, Bash, Go, or similar.
• Git and modern development/deployment tools.
• Strong Linux system administration and troubleshooting skills.
• Understanding of Agile software practices.
• DoD 8140/8570-compliant certification or ability to obtain.

Phoenix Ops Group is seeking an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer to support a mission-focused technical environment in JBSA-Lackland, TX . This position is ideal for a DevOps professional with strong experience supporting cloud infrastructure, containerized environments, automation, CI/CD processes, and Linux-based systems.

The Senior DevOps Engineer will work closely with software development and engineering teams to build, deploy, automate, monitor, and maintain reliable and scalable infrastructure. The successful candidate will have hands-on experience with AWS, Kubernetes, infrastructure-as-code technologies, scripting, and modern DevOps practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, deploy, and maintain cloud infrastructure within AWS environments, with a particular focus on Amazon EKS.
• Support deployment and maintenance of on-premises, edge, and portable infrastructure environments.
• Build and improve automated deployment processes to increase reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency.
• Deploy, manage, and troubleshoot Kubernetes-based container environments.
• Partner with software development teams to integrate applications into cloud and infrastructure environments.
• Monitor production systems, identify performance or availability issues, and perform troubleshooting and remediation.
• Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code and configuration-management solutions using tools such as Terraform and Ansible.
• Support CI/CD and automated software deployment processes.
• Administer and troubleshoot Linux-based systems.
• Develop automation and operational tooling using languages such as Python, Bash, or Go.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements to infrastructure, automation, reliability, and performance.
• Support additional technical and operational requirements as mission needs evolve.

Requirements

• Active TS/SCI U.S. Government security clearance.

• Bachelor's degree in a related technical discipline with 9+ years of relevant experience; OR a master's degree with 7+ years of relevant experience; OR a high school diploma/equivalent with 13+ years of relevant experience.
• Strong experience with Kubernetes or comparable container orchestration technologies.
• Hands-on experience with AWS services, including EKS, EC2, EBS, S3, and Lambda.
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code and configuration-management tools such as Terraform and Ansible.
• Experience deploying, scaling, managing, and troubleshooting applications, containers, and operating systems.
• Programming or scripting experience using Python, Bash, Go, or similar languages.
• Experience with Git and modern development/deployment tools.
• Strong Linux system administration and troubleshooting skills.
• Understanding of Agile software development practices.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Current DoD 8140/8570-compliant certification, such as Security+, or the ability to obtain an approved certification within the required timeframe after hire.
• Ability to work onsite at JBSA-Lackland, TX five days per week and travel occasionally as mission requirements dictate.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting big-data or distributed-data technologies such as Hadoop, Accumulo, Ceph, Spark, NiFi, Kafka, PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, Hive, Trino, Presto, or similar platforms.
• Experience with K9s and AWS CLI.
• Familiarity with additional AWS services such as SNS and SQS.
• Experience supporting highly available, mission-critical systems in secure government environments.
