Job summary

Blue Origin Engines seeks a hands-on DevOps engineer to own and evolve the software infrastructure behind avionics software for rocket engines. You will design and maintain CI/CD pipelines, containers, and development environments to enable reproducible builds and reliable deployments.

This role requires 5+ years in DevOps, Linux administration, Docker, Ansible, GitLab, and scripting in Python and Shell. Collaboration with multiple teams and compliance with safety tooling are essential.

Qualifications

• BS degree in computer science, engineering, or related field; others considered with relevant experience.
• 5+ years hands-on DevOps, infrastructure, or similar software role.
• Linux admin on RHEL/CentOS; manage services, filesystems, users, permissions.
• Docker: building images, registries, Docker Compose.
• VMs and hypervisors: provisioning and troubleshooting builds/dev envs.
• Ansible for provisioning and config management.
• GitLab CI/CD and GitLab Runners: pipelines, secrets, release automation.
• Artifact repositories (Artifactory or equivalent).
• Automation and scripting in Python and Shell.
• Git fundamentals and code review workflows.
• Core networking basics: SSH, TCP/UDP, ports, firewalls.
• Ability to learn fast and deliver tasks to completion.
• US citizenship or approved status required.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain GitLab CI/CD pipelines and Runner fleet.
• Own container build and distribution path including Kaniko migration.
• Provision and manage workstations, VMs, build servers, and containers as code.
• Develop automation tooling in Python and Shell to improve throughput.
• Serve as first line of support for Docker and CI issues, triage and analyze root causes.
• Collaborate with IT, SRE, and infrastructure teams to secure resources.
• Identify weak points and implement improvements proactively.
• Maintain tooling for safety-critical software development, including licensing.
