Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to enable efficient, secure development across Cat Digital. You will support developers with CI/CD pipelines, cloud deployments, and infrastructure automation, driving best practices and cross-team standards.

You will collaborate with multiple teams to optimize SDLC, manage cloud resources with IaC, IAM, and networking, and communicate outcomes to product owners and managers. This role is based in Chicago or Peoria, IL.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience as a DevOps Engineer.
  • Experience with AWS cloud services (IAM, S3, Lambda, SageMaker, API Gateway, RDS).
  • Deep understanding of CI/CD principles and best practices.
  • Strong experience creating, managing, and troubleshooting CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps and/or GitHub Actions.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with multiple development teams to recommend DevOps best practices and troubleshoot SDLC challenges.
  • Create, optimize, and troubleshoot CI/CD pipelines with developers.
  • Create, optimize, and troubleshoot cloud deployments using infrastructure as code.
  • Help set standards and drive initiatives across Cat Digital teams.
  • Assist developers in using cloud services and troubleshoot IAM, networking, and configuration issues.
  • Communicate issues, recommendations, and solutions to developers, product owners, and software development managers.

Job Summary:

The Cat Digital DevOps Engineering team supports the Cat Digital development community by providing DevOps tooling, technical guidance, standards, and best practices. As a DevOps Engineer, you will assist developers in leveraging these capabilities to accelerate their delivery of Cat Digital applications and software.

What You Will Do:

As a Senior DevOps Engineer in Cat Digital, your mission is to enable effective, efficient, and secure development teams to deliver high-quality, business value to our customers Competent to perform all programming, project management, and development assignments without close supervision; normally assigned the more complex aspects of systems work.

  • Collaborate closely with several development teams to provide recommendations on DevOps best practices, Cat Digital DevOps standards, and troubleshooting of developer challenges in the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Work with developers to create, optimize, and troubleshoot Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Work with developers to create, optimize, and troubleshoot cloud infrastructure deployments using Infrastructure as Code (IAC).
  • Collaborate with a DevOps Engineering community to help set standards and implement initiatives across Cat Digital teams.
  • Work with developers in the usage of cloud services and assist in troubleshooting solution problems, including IAM, networking and other configuration issues.
  • Communicate issues, recommendations, and solutions to developers, product owners, as well as software development managers.
What You Will Have:
  • Software Development Life Cycle: Knowledge of software development life cycle; ability to use a structured methodology for delivering and managing new or enhanced software products to the marketplace.
  • Software Product Design/Architecture: Knowledge of software product design; ability to convert market requirements into the software product design.
  • Software Integration Engineering: Knowledge of software integration processes and functions; ability to design, develop and maintain interfaces and linkage to alternative platforms and software packages.
  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
  • Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
Consideration for Top Candidates:
  • Typically, a candidate will have 5+ years of experience as a DevOps Engineer
  • Experience with AWS cloud services (such as IAM, S3, Lambda, SageMaker, API Gateway, and RDS)
  • Deep understanding of Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) principals and best practices
  • Strong experience creating, managing, and troubleshooting CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps and/or GitHub Actions.
  • Experience managing and deploying AWS infrastructure via AWS CloudFormation

Summary Pay Range:

$112,710.00 - $183,140.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
