Job summary

The Combined Jewish Philanthropies (CJP) is seeking a Senior Development Officer, Growth Philanthropy to advance strategic fundraising in Greater Boston. You will manage a ~100-donor portfolio, cultivate relationships, and develop moves management strategies with an emphasis on annual campaigns, legacy giving, and donor-advised funds.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years successful experience in development or related field with emphasis on fundraising and donor relations.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and writing skills.
  • Proficient with Windows, MS Word, Excel, databases and Internet.
  • Capacity to manage confidential information.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently in a dynamic environment; self-motivated; team player.
  • Knowledge of the Jewish community preferred.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends and travel occasionally.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and meet ambitious goals within KPIs and metrics.
  • Collaborate with legacy donors and identify legacy gifts within the portfolio; close gifts annually.
  • Support strategy to attract new donors and increase giving through events and leadership experiences.
  • Stay informed about program priorities and serve as a resource to colleagues and donors.

Position Overview

The Senior Development Officer, Growth Philanthropy will be part of a dynamic team tasked with advancing the ongoing strategic direction of CJP’s resource development efforts. This person will develop and implement best practices to cultivate integrated philanthropic relationships focusing on the annual campaign, legacy giving, supplemental giving and CJP’s donor advised fund program. This position is a member of the Individual Giving team and plays a crucial role in furthering CJP’s ambitious fundraising goals through management of a ~100 donor portfolio. They will work closely with the AVP of Growth Philanthropy to help develop and implement strategies and initiatives/events for identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of high-capacity major donors and major donor prospects. CJP is not able to offer visa sponsorship for this position. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.

Essential Functions
  • Manage a portfolio of individual donors and prospects - establishing and maintaining strong personal relationships through cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Develop sophisticated moves management plans to advance donors’ relationships with CJP, utilizing all available donor engagement and involvement opportunities.
  • Solicit gifts directly and prepare other senior colleagues, the president, and volunteer leadership for solicitations.
  • Develop and meet ambitious goals within the framework of strategically developed key performance indicators/metrics.
  • In partnership with CJP’s gift planning/legacy colleagues, integrate strategies to identify and develop legacy giving prospects within the portfolio. Successfully close legacy gifts annually.
  • Support and build upon the organization's strategy to identify and attract new donors as well as retain and increase giving among existing donors through targeted cohort-based events, programmatic activities and leadership experiences.
  • Possess up-to-date awareness of CJP program priorities.
  • Serve as a resource to colleagues and prospective donors around community priorities

Education
  • BA/BS degree required.
Experience

Working Conditions
  • Hybrid Work Schedule: CJP staff follow a hybrid work model. On-site work is required on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, while remote work is an option on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays, with occasional in-person meetings on those days.
  • Physical Requirements: This role involves remaining in a stationary position, often sitting or standing for prolonged periods, primarily working at a computer. Staff need to be able to carry a laptop and bag to and from the office.
