Job summary

G-III Apparel Group's Karl Lagerfeld Paris Sportswear team in New York City seeks an experienced Senior Designer to lead the design and development of contemporary women’s sportswear from concept through production.

The ideal candidate will balance creativity with commercial insight, manage multiple projects, mentor junior designers, and collaborate with Merchandising, Production, Technical Design, and overseas factories to deliver trend-right collections.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or technical degree in Fashion Design or related field.
  • 8–10+ years of professional apparel design experience focusing on women's sportswear.
  • Experience designing coordinated collections including woven and knit separates, sweaters, jackets, bottoms, and dresses.
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • Strong hand sketching, CAD, and presentation skills.
  • Deep understanding of garment construction, pattern development, draping, fit, and the product development process.
  • Experience working with overseas factories and vendors.
  • Strong trend forecasting abilities and ability to translate runway inspiration into commercially viable collections.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, presentation, and leadership skills.
  • Portfolio showcasing contemporary women's sportswear collections is required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of the Karl Lagerfeld Paris Sportswear collection from initial concept through final approved prototypes.
  • Research current trends, fabrics, trims, colors, and silhouettes to establish seasonal direction aligned with the brand aesthetic.
  • Develop cohesive sportswear collections including woven and knit tops, sweaters, jackets, skirts, pants, dresses, and coordinating separates.
  • Create detailed sketches, CADs, and technical packages with understanding of garment construction, fit, fabrication, and finishing.
  • Communicate seasonal design concepts and development direction to overseas factories, requesting initial mock-ups and prototype samples.
  • Review prototypes, attend fittings, evaluate garment construction, and communicate revisions with annotated sketches and specs.
  • Collaborate with Merchandising, Production, Technical Design, Product Development, and Sales to ensure design integrity and successful product execution.
  • Source seasonal fabrics, trims, washes, and embellishments while managing development approvals with overseas vendors.
  • Evaluate collection performance and refine styles to support merchandising objectives and SKU targets.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while mentoring junior design team members and maintaining calendars.

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and innovative Senior Designer to join our Karl Lagerfeld Paris Sportswear team. This role will lead the design and development of contemporary sportswear collections that reflect the Karl Lagerfeld Paris brand aesthetic while balancing creativity, trend, and commercial success. The ideal candidate brings a strong understanding of women's sportswear, exceptional design and technical skills, and the ability to collaborate cross‑functionally to execute fashion‑forward collections from concept through production.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and development of the Karl Lagerfeld Paris Sportswear collection from initial concept through final approved prototypes.
  • Research current and emerging fashion trends, fabrics, trims, colors, and silhouettes to establish seasonal direction aligned with the brand aesthetic.
  • Develop cohesive, fashion‑forward sportswear collections including woven and knit tops, sweaters, jackets, skirts, pants, dresses, and coordinating separates.
  • Create detailed sketches, CADs, and comprehensive technical packages with a strong understanding of garment construction, fit, fabrication, and finishing.
