Job description

Department Focus

The Design Value Stream function supports business needs and continuous improvement efforts through proper technical product and engineering principles, as well as appropriate development of employees and management. The Design Value Stream is a business unit that encompasses quoting, engineering, quality, project management, production planning and procurement.

Job Description and Duties:

Due to Federal Contract requirements, US Citizenship is required for this position.

Principle Duties:

Provide a high level of non-supervisory engineering work related to development testing, equipment qualification, factory acceptance testing, and commissioning activities. Work includes test planning, test artifact and fixture design, test execution, results analysis, and test report writing.

Work closely with subvendors to design and approve test plans and test procedures specific to subvendor supplied systems.

Author, check, and approve documents and drawings as needed to support new unit testing.

Incorporate test results to support unit design as assigned by the Lead Unit Design Engineer, including engineering and mechanical design, material selection, executing against established engineering design schedules, compliance to various design Codes and contract requirements, producing progress reports, and all other activities associated with unit design from an Engineering perspective.

Perform, check, approve, and mentor engineers in most types of calculations, design and analysis, and test validation using both computer aided and manual techniques.

Perform self-checks of completed work, develop self-confidence, mentor, counsel and provide guidance to peers and team as directed by the Lead Unit Design Engineer.

Secondary Duties:

When not involved in test related activities, collaborate with the Lead Unit Design Engineer and engineering team in new product development. New product development activities include recommending appropriate mechanical design strategies for conceptual and product development, component design and analysis, task and priority determination, setting deadlines, and assuring that targets are met.

Utilize customer and vendor data and work with other disciplines as required in the performance of design activities.

Promote in-house mechanical design excellence by suggesting design and analysis tools, processes, techniques, and process improvements.

The above described duties require well-developed analytical skills as may be applied to rotating mechanical equipment design and analysis. This would include stress analysis, strength of materials, materials science, vibration, and heat transfer. Preparation of reports, design modifications, and new product proposals may require development of sketches and CAD drawings and models.

Other related duties as required.

Minimum qualifications:
  • Due to Federal Contract requirements, US Citizenship is required for this position.
  • BSME and 5-10 years of experience related to testing and mechanical engineering design and analysis in the field of industrial rotating machinery such as pumps, turbines, or compressors.
