Job summary

Simon Property Group in Indianapolis is seeking a Design Manager to lead the planning and design of retail developments, coordinating with Development, Leasing, Operations and Project Management to define goals and deliver coordinated design solutions through external AE consultants.

You will manage the full design process, develop scope, schedule and budget, solicit proposals, prepare contracts, and ensure adherence to Simon’s design standards across retail and mixed-use projects.

Qualifications

• NAAB-accredited B.Arch degree.
• Architect license and registration in at least one US state preferred.
• 10+ years AE industry experience, incl. 6 years retail.
• Ability to communicate design solutions with hand sketching and 2D/3D modeling using SketchUp, Rhino, CAD or REVIT, plus rendering (V-Ray/Enscape).
• Experience coordinating engineering disciplines with architectural documentation.
• Knowledge of multifamily or hospitality sectors a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead external AE consultants through design from concept to construction.
• Provide master planning input on mixed-use projects in Simon’s pipeline.
• Review consultant designs and construction drawings; offer feedback and alternatives.
• Participate in value engineering to meet project goals.
• Develop design scope, schedule, and budget for AE services.
• Prepare RFPs, evaluate responses, and select consultants with the project team.
• Manage contracts and invoicing using Simon’s PM system.
