Job summary

Caterpillar's Integrated Drivetrain and Energy Solutions Division (IDES) seeks a Battery Systems Senior Design Engineer to design, analyze, build, and implement new battery systems for rail and marine applications. You will own top-level system design, rack/pack interfaces, and cooling/ HV routing, collaborating with manufacturing and suppliers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in an accredited Engineering curriculum.
  • Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis.
  • Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques.
  • Knowledge of managing multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities.
  • Knowledge of CAD/engineering tools; ability to produce, simulate and test product design drafts.
  • Knowledge of features to design, build, and develop a new product or service from concept through to production.

Responsibilities

  • Own the design of battery systems used to integrate battery packages into customer applications, including top-level system design and interface routing for cooling and high voltage connections.

  • Provide guidance to colleagues responsible for other portions of the product to meet requirements and schedules.
  • Contribute to development of battery systems, Design FMEAs and risk assessments.
  • Protect Caterpillar's intellectual property.

Integrated Drivetrain and Energy Solutions Division (IDES):

The IDES division focuses on delivering advanced electrified powertrain, zero-emissions products/technologies, and the solutions and services associated with these technologies. Focus areas include batteries, fuel cells, motors, inverters, micro grid controllers, charging, energy storage systems, lifecycle solutions/services and integration of components for ePowertrain solutions across industries.

Job Summary:

Caterpillar's Integrated Drivetrain and Energy Solution Division (IDES) has an exciting position as a Battery Systems Senior Design Engineer supporting the Battery Packs team. As a Senior Design Engineer, you will design, analyze, build, and implement new battery systems, components, or technologies into rail and marine customer applications.


What You Will Do:

  • Own the design of battery systems design used to integrate battery packages into customer applications. This would include owning the top-level system design as well as the structural rack/pack and interface routing and location for cooling, communications, and high voltage connections.

  • Utilize a robust problem solving and implementation process to resolve and improve designs.

  • Evaluate and optimize designs using simulation tools structural or thermal evaluations.

  • Assist in procurement and builds of system hardware; document and develop build improvements through design or process optimization.

  • Support customers and dealer product support teams to develop Application & Integration guides and Disassembly & Assembly procedures.

  • Collaborate with internal manufacturing and external purchasing partners to complete supplier selection, capabilities assessments and implement APQP processes.

  • Provide aid and guidance to colleagues responsible for other portions of the product to ensure product requirements and development schedules are met.

  • Contribute to the development of battery systems, Design FMEAs and Risk Assessments.

  • Protect Caterpillar's intellectual property.

What You Will Have:

  • Education Requirement: Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) in an accredited Engineering curriculum.

  • Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.

  • Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.

  • Managing Multiple Priorities: Knowledge of effective self-management practices; ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation.

  • Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.

  • Computer-Aided Design & Engineering: Knowledge of tools and techniques of specialized graphics programs; ability to produce, analyze, simulate and test product design drafts.

  • Product Design and Development: Knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production.

What Will Set You Apart:

  • 3+ years of progressive work/academic experience on the design and development of battery pack/rack or similar electrical integration systems.

  • Proficiency with Creo (or equivalent) and Teamcenter.

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to communicate technical information effectively with team members and inside and outside their work group.

Additional Information:

  • This position is located in Mossville, IL and requires 5-day a week on-site availability.

  • 10% or less travel is expected for this role.

  • Domestic Relocation is available.

Summary Pay Range:

$112,710.00 - $169,060.00
