Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. seeks a design-focused engineer to support drivetrain platform design for large machines, coordinating with manufacturing and suppliers to ensure robust product development.

The role emphasizes CAD, system-level design ownership, and resolving production issues while driving cost efficiencies across assemblies. Onsite work in Decatur, IL is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities; ability to communicate complex design changes clearly.
  • Experience with CAD tools and product design for manufacturing environments.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate design changes to process partners via content definition and design reviews.
  • Provide factory support for Assurance of Supply issues as first point of contact.
  • Collaborate with factory personnel to resolve BIQ and NPI issues.
  • Maintain dashboard with BIQ issues and resolution status.
  • Manage large assemblies in Creo and Teamcenter.
  • Release engine arrangements and other platform drawings.
  • Investigate current production issues (CPI).
  • Deploy product robustness initiatives (AM Growth).
  • Evaluate parts resourcing and cost reduction projects.
  • Manage design control requests.

Role Definition

Within the Integrated Drivetrain Energy Solutions (IDES) Division, this position supports the Drivetrain Platform Team design for Large Mining Truck, Off-Highway Truck, and Wheel Tractor Scraper applications. The Drivetrain Platform Team has design control ownership for the system level of transmissions, torque converters, gearboxes, and axles. Responsibilities span across new product introduction, current product improvement, supplier and supply chain support, and manufacturing support.

What you will do
  • Communicating necessary design changes to process partners through Content Definition and Design Reviews

  • Factory support for Assurance of Supply Issues as first point of contact from engineering

  • Working with factory personnel to manage and resolve current product BIQ issues & NPI issues

  • Maintain dashboard with active list of BIQ issues and resolution status

  • Managing large assemblies in Creo and Teamcenter

Degree Requirement
  • Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum.

  • Product Design - MFG: Knowledge of processes, approaches, tools and techniques of product design; ability to convert customer and market requirements into product design.

  • Product Design and Development: Knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production.

  • This position will close at 11:59 p.m. on 9/28/2026.

  • This position will be located onsite 5 days a week in Decatur, IL or East Peoria, IL (Building KK).

  • Domestic relocation is Available

  • Travel requirements will be less than 10%.

Summary Pay Range:

$112,710.00 - $169,060.00
