Senior Deputy County Counsel

Office of the County Counsel, County of Alameda

The County of Alameda's Office of the County Counsel ("OCC") located in Oakland, California, is hiring attorneys to join a diverse and collegial team committed to providing excellent legal services. The County Counsel is the General Counsel for the County of Alameda, including the Board of Supervisors and all County agencies, departments, certain special districts, boards, and commissions. OCC covers a broad spectrum of practice areas, including employment, personal injury, child welfare, breach of contract, civil rights, taxation, election challenges, probate/conservatorship, health care, and land use, including planning, code enforcement and environmental regulation, in addition to litigation and oversight of litigation handled by outside counsel.

OCC is seeking a highly talented, highly motivated, fast learner to fill our Senior Deputy County Counsel position. A minimum of six years of experience as a licensed attorney is required. The goal is to fill the position with a lawyer with a broad skill set who is prepared to work directly with the Board of Supervisors at times, as well as the County Counsel, handling broad and diverse subjects, as the current vacancy is not tied to a particular County department and will work across divisions of the office.

  • Ability to perform specialized and complex legal work; to prioritize and manage several simultaneous projects under deadlines
  • Flexible and eager to learn notwithstanding an excellent track record of legal experience

  • Able to establish and maintain excellent working relationships with other County staff

Compensation and Benefits

Salary range: $9,134.40 - $12,028.00 biweekly ($237,494.40 - $312,728.00 annually). Benefits include medical and dental insurance for employee and dependents, life insurance, vacation leave, sick leave, holidays, defined benefit retirement plan and a deferred compensation plan.
