Jack Henry & Associates, Inc. is seeking a Senior Database Engineer to independently evaluate, design, code, and optimize databases and applications.

You will develop tables, stored procedures, views, and other database objects, tuning for peak performance while collaborating with developers to integrate databases with applications. The role involves limited database administration and a hybrid work schedule, with onsite presence in Allen, TX one day per week.

• Tunes queries for optimal performance by closely examining execution plan and ensuring appropriate indexing.
• Participates in design meetings and recommend optimal performing database designs.
• Writes and maintains unit tests.
• Writes and maintains library of query performance tests (baselines).
• Ensures accurate history in version control systems (git/TFS) and writes documentation, as necessary.
• Monitors and maintains database CI/CD devops tooling and ensures accuracy of update/rollback scripts for database deployments.

The Senior Database Engineer works independently to evaluate, design, code, optimize, and modify databases and database applications. This role models databases and develops tables, stored procedures, views, triggers, and other database objects. The Senior Engineer, Database, tunes databases for optimum performance and works closely with other developers to integrate databases with other applications. This position may involve interface development to access databases and may require a limited amount of database administration.

This position offers a hybrid work schedule, with team members expected to work onsite at our Allen, TX office one day per week.

What you’ll be responsible for:

• Writes and reviews stored procedures, functions, and other programmable objects for high-volume transaction processing systems.
• Participates on scrum teams as the SQL expert, helping to move features through the software development lifecycle.
• Tunes queries for optimal performance by closely examining execution plan and ensuring appropriate indexing.
• Participates in design meetings and recommend optimal performing database designs.
• Writes and maintains unit tests.
• Writes and maintains library of query performance tests (baselines).
• Ensures accurate history in version control systems (git/TFS) and writes documentation, as necessary.
• Monitors and maintains database CI/CD devops tooling and ensures accuracy of update/rollback scripts for database deployments.
• Writes and reviews application code in the data access layer to ensure performance and security of database calls.
• Performs advanced troubleshooting across all application components, debug, fix code, deploy, and test the fixes
• Diagnoses and troubleshoots complex application problems and leverage tools and resources appropriately to identify solutions.
• Resolves challenging problems in collaboration with others.
• Helps team members with questions and troubleshooting related to their SQL Server setups.
• Trains and mentors junior team members.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

What you’ll need to have:

• A minimum of 6 years of experience in database administration.
• Must be familiar with object-oriented programming.

What would be nice for you to have:

• Experience writing and optimizing complex queries.
• Experience with performance tuning.
• Knowledge of payment systems and solutions.
• Strong communication, writing, and diagramming skills.
• Experience with GoLang
