Job summary

Johnson County Developmental Supports (JCDS) seeks a Senior Direct Support Professional to deliver and lead direct care for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. You will provide personal care, crisis interventions, monitor medications, and coordinate services with families and other providers.

This on-site, Monday–Friday role in Lenexa, KS requires a high school diploma or equivalent and two years in human services; a KS/MO driver’s license may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience in a human services field are required.
• KS/MO driver’s license may be required depending on the department.
• Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions.

Responsibilities

• Provides, assists with, or coaches individuals on personal care needs; crisis interventions including physical intervention and restraint to ensure safety; monitors and/or administers medication as prescribed; monitors and documents mental and physical condition; coordinates service delivery and provides guidance, training, and support for other staff.
• Teaches and supports individuals to develop skills for independent living; assists individuals and families to identify strategies and treatment options; develops and maintains relationships with recipients, families, and other service providers as the main point of contact.
• Organizes and participates in care coordination meetings; completes documentation for direct services; reviews data for timely and accurate completion; coordinates and monitors schedules based on current needs.

Job Description

Johnson County Developmental Supports (JCDS) is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Senior Direct Support Professional for their employment services division specifically in the retirement area. JCDS serves people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We focus on individuals' abilities, provide choice driven supports, and advocate alongside people to live and work in our community. We aspire to build a community that promotes, supports, and embraces people of all abilities. Senior Direct Support Professionals are responsible for the delivery of services with JCDS. This position also serves as a lead for other direct care staff.

• Provides, assists with, or coaches individuals on personal care needs; provides crisis interventions, including physical intervention and restraint to ensure the safety of individuals; monitors and/or administers medication as prescribed; monitors and documents mental and physical condition of individuals; coordinates service delivery and provides guidance, training, and support for other support providers.
• Teaches, coaches and provides guidance and support on various skills to enable productive lives of individuals; assists individual and family members to identify strategies or treatment options and participates in the development and modification of plans to regain ability to make independent choices and promote coping skills; develops and maintains a positive and effective relationship with service recipients, families, and other service providers, serving as the main point of contact.
• Organizes and participates in meetings related to care coordination; completes documentation for direct services provided and reviews documentation or data to ensure timely and accurate completion; coordinates and monitors schedules based on current needs.

Job Requirements

Minimum Job Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience working in a human services field are required.
• May require KS/MO driver's license, depending on department or agency.
