Job summary

BCforward is seeking a Senior Databricks Engineer to join our GRES Cloud Data Platform team in Charlotte, NC (onsite). The role focuses on Databricks Lakehouse, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, data governance, and CI/CD, with modernization of Oracle-based data warehouses and secure data sharing.

Key duties include designing scalable data solutions, optimizing performance and cost, implementing RBAC and lineage, and building semantic data models for Databricks SQL, Genie, and Power BI.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of Data Engineering on modern data platforms.
• 3+ years Databricks with Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Delta Sharing.
• RBAC, governance, and data lineage experience.
• CI/CD pipelines with Git, Azure DevOps, GitHub, Jenkins, or similar.
• Cloud data platforms on Azure, AWS, or GCP.
• Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder collaboration.
• Role: Individual Contributor / Technical SME.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable data solutions on the Databricks Lakehouse Platform.
• Partner with Application Leads and Data Engineering teams to define implementation approaches and best practices.
• Optimize Databricks environments for performance, scalability, reliability, and cost efficiency.
• Implement Unity Catalog, data governance, lineage, and security controls, including RBAC and data access policies.
• Implement Delta Sharing for secure internal and external data sharing.
• Support Oracle-to-Databricks modernization and migration initiatives.
• Establish and enhance CI/CD processes, deployment automation, and DevOps practices.
• Design, build, and manage semantic data models and business layers for Databricks SQL, AI/BI Dashboards, Genie, and Power BI.
• Develop standards, reusable patterns, and implementation guidance for application teams.

Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Databricks Engineer to join our dynamic team and support the GRES Cloud Data Platform. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in Databricks Lakehouse, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, data governance, and CI/CD and a proven ability to design, implement, optimize, and govern scalable data platforms while modernizing Oracle-based data warehouses. This is an onsite role with an ASAP start. GLIDER assessment required.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 5+ years of Data Engineering experience with modern data platforms.
• 3+ years of hands-on Databricks implementation experience, including Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, and Delta Sharing.
• Experience implementing RBAC, security, governance, and data lineage solutions.
• Proven performance tuning and cost optimization on Databricks.
• CI/CD pipeline implementation using Git, Azure DevOps, GitHub, Jenkins, or similar tools.
• Experience with cloud data platforms on Azure, AWS, or GCP.
• Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts and modern data architectures.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder collaboration skills.
• Experience Level: 7+ years overall.
• Role Type: Individual Contributor / Technical SME.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with Oracle-to-Databricks migration and modernization programs.
• Familiarity with Informatica PowerCenter and/or Informatica IDMC.
• Experience with Databricks Genie, AI/BI Dashboards, and Databricks SQL.
• Integration experience with Power BI.
• Knowledge of Databricks Workflows, Auto Loader, Delta Live Tables (DLT), Lakeflow, and MLflow.
• Infrastructure as Code with Terraform.
• Databricks certifications.
