Job summary

NinjaTrader is seeking a Sr. Database Reliability Engineer II to architect, evolve, and optimize the data platform powering our core trading applications.

This role goes beyond a traditional DBA, requiring deep MySQL/Postgres expertise and active software development involvement. You will partner with engineers and platform teams to improve database performance, scale our data architecture, build developer tooling, and drive engineering best practices that enhance reliability and throughput for

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Expert-level MySQL in large-scale production environments.
• Strong backend language experience (Java/C#/Go/Python/Kotlin/Scala).
• Deep understanding of SQL optimization, query plans, indexing, transactions, locking.
• Experience designing scalable DB schemas for high-volume apps.
• Experience leading technical initiatives and architecture decisions.
• Excellent collaboration and communication with cross-functional partners.
• Passion for dev productivity and automation.

Responsibilities

• Design and evolve MySQL schemas for high-volume workloads.
• Drive improvements to data platform architecture, migrations, and deployments.
• Analyze and optimize SQL queries, indexes, and execution plans.
• Develop production-quality software to improve persistence layer and tooling.
• Design scalable data models balancing performance and growth.
• Lead database performance tuning across applications and services.
• Mentor engineers on data modeling and MySQL best practices.
• Collaborate with Platform Engineering on monitoring, DR, and reliability.
