Job summary

Dimensional Funds Advisors LP in Austin, TX seeks a Senior Database Platform Engineer to design and run HA data services across SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Snowflake. You will lead security implementations and automation, enabling reliable data access and governance across teams.

You will mentor the database team, collaborate with stakeholders, and occasionally work from a home office per policy, with a flexible office presence in multiple states.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, CS, or CE with 7 years of relevant HA and DB experience.
• Experience engineering HA for SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Snowflake.
• Experience with Terraform, Ansible, Python, and PowerShell automation.

Responsibilities

• Engineer and administer high availability solutions for SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Snowflake.
• Implement security and authentication frameworks (LDAP, OAuth 2.0) across databases.
• Perform database maintenance and monitoring with DPA, SolarWinds, and Sentry to ensure uptime.
• Develop Terraform modules and Ansible playbooks for automated deployment and configuration.
• Provide technical leadership to the database team and coordinate with stakeholders.

POSITION: Senior Database Platform Engineer

WORKSITE: 6300 Bee Cave Road Building One, Austin, TX 78746

DUTIES:

• Engineer and administer high availability solutions for SQL Server (Always on Availability Groups on multi-subnet failover clusters), PostgreSQL, MongoDB (replica sets and sharded clusters), and Snowflake (multi-region accounts with failover configurations).
• Engineer security and authentication frameworks for SQL Server (Windows/SQL authentication, CIS Benchmark compliance), MongoDB (LDAP authentication), PostgreSQL (role-based access controls), and Snowflake (OAuth 2.0 client authentication).
• Database maintenance operations, and monitoring integration with DPA, SolarWinds, and Sentry to ensure documented RPO/RTO compliance and uptime for enterprise applications.
• Develop reusable Terraform modules and Ansible playbooks using Python and PowerShell integration for baseline standard enforcement, network configuration automation, secure data sharing implementation, and consistent deployment patterns reducing provisioning time across development, staging, and production environments.
• Engineer Central Management Server (CMS) infrastructure and inventory management systems using Python and PowerShell scripting to automatically discover, register, and track SQL Server instances, PostgreSQL clusters, MongoDB deployments, and multiple Snowflake accounts with enabling centralized policy-based management.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to database team while serving as escalation point of contact for advanced troubleshooting, collaborating verbally with multiple business departments, application development teams, infrastructure groups, and executive stakeholders.
• May work from a home office where Dimensional has an office in California, Texas, or North Carolina.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field and 7 years of experience stated herein to involve: (1) engineer and administer high availability solutions for SQL Server (Always on Availability Groups on multi-subnet failover clusters), PostgreSQL, MongoDB (replica sets and sharded clusters), and Snowflake (multi-region accounts with failover configurations); (2) engineer security and authentication frameworks for SQL Server (Windows/SQL authentication, CIS Benchmark compliance), MongoDB (LDAP authentication), PostgreSQL (role-based access controls), and Snowflake (OAuth 2.0 client authentication); (3) database maintenance operations, and monitoring integration with DPA, SolarWinds, and Sentry to ensure documented RPO/RTO compliance and uptime for enterprise applications; (4) develop reusable Terraform modules and Ansible playbooks using Python and PowerShell integration for baseline standard enforcement, network configuration automation, secure data sharing implementation, and consistent deployment patterns reducing provisioning time across development, staging, and production environments; (5) designed and implemented enterprise data ingestion solutions leveraging Snowflake External Tables and Apache Iceberg table formats to consume data from Amazon S3 base data lakes; and (6) configured and Managed Snowflake integrations (Security/Storage) enabling connectivity with PowerBI, Sigma and SailPoint applications. Also, 2 years experience stated herein to involve engineering experience and usage with Kafka.
