Job summary

Joint Commission is seeking a Database Engineer to design, develop, and secure enterprise data solutions using SQL on VMs, PaaS SQL, and Azure data services. You will collaborate with application developers, infrastructure teams, and business units to ensure data integrity, performance, and scalable data models.

The role involves governance, capacity planning, and 24/7 on-call support for production DBMS, with a focus on Always-On, clustering, and cloud-based solutions.

Qualifications

• Requires a BS/BA in Computer Science or equivalent educational background.
• Minimum five years of information systems experience, with five+ years implementing data solutions in Azure.
• Proficient in SQL with ability to read, write and debug T-SQL.

Responsibilities

• Review physical database structures for data integrity, performance, and space requirements.
• Coordinate day-to-day tasks with a team of developers to deliver data solution components.
• Monitor system performance and implement timely fixes.
• Research and recommend optimal data storage solutions and standardize the environment.
• Coordinate work plans to meet dates and ensure on-time delivery, including UAT and production promotions.
• Lend support to business and technology teams to ensure solid, scalable solutions.

Job description

The Database Engineer is responsible for all aspects of the design, development, security, capacity planning, delivery of data and database solutions and day-to-day operations. This position will involve working with SQL on VMs, PaaS SQL solutions, Azure data Factory, Modern Data stacks and Azure DevOps.

Ensures data recovery, maintenance, and data integrity for physical databases are met through the formulation of policies, procedures, and standards relating to database management. Provides a high degree of coordination between application development, infrastructure, and business entities to ensure effective data management as a corporate enterprise. Has willingness to work with customers of varying levels of technical expertise in a complex environment. Responsible for the definition and maintenance of the enterprise data model.

• Constantly review overall physical database structures for data integrity, performance, recoverability and space requirement considerations
• Effectively manage day-to-day tasks/activities in coordination with a team of developers to meet the deliverables and schedule of a data solution component within a larger application project
• Closely monitors system performance, identifies problems, and implements solutions in a timely manner
• Researches and recommends optimal data storage solutions, publishes standards and policies, and works with development staff to standardize the environment and improve efficiency
• Ensures work plans across assigned teams are coordinated to meet dates and expectations. Meets application team deadlines by delivering database solutions as well as completing UAT and Production promotions on time. The ability to multi-task is essential
• Lend support to various business and technology teams as necessary during design, development and delivery to ensure solid, scalable, robust solutions
• Serves as liaison to database vendors
• Responsible for the integrity of production, development, and user acceptance testing environments
• Evaluates and recommends data storage solutions
• Rotates On-Call 24/7 support of production DBMS across the enterprise.
• Where necessary, provides a High Availability environment utilizing Always-On, Clustering, cloud solutions, or other advanced technical database solutions
• Provides an enterprise data model
• Other duties as assigned
• BS, BA degree in computer science or equivalent educational background.
• Minimum five years’ experience in information systems or equivalent,
• Minimum 5+ years of experience with implementing data solutions in Azure, including Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake Store, and other relevant services
• Administer databases with regards to efficiency, data security, user security, and system integrity
• Complete knowledge of SQL. Ability to read, write and debug T-SQL. Experience in the use of SQL for query and transaction processing in a high-performance environment.
• Experience with Modern Data Stack - Azure Data Lake, Gen2 Storage, Synapse, Databricks
• Good knowledge of ETL tools, SSIS and Azure Data Factory, experience with building pipelines in Azure Data Factory and Synapse pipelines
• Experience with building and managing Ci/Cd using Azure DevOps and GitHub
• Experience with build-tools like MSBuild or Maven
• Experience with unstructured (BIG) data is a plus.
• Experience with implementing data encryption techniques.
• Working knowledge of a programming environment (i.e..Net Framework, Entity Framework).
