Job summary

Mount Sinai Health System is seeking a Lead Data Warehouse Engineer to guide the integration of multi-modal clinical data into the AIR.MS warehouse. You will coordinate with AIR.MS and Mount Sinai Data Warehouse teams to drive data integration, metadata planning, and scalable pipelines.

The role requires 12–15 years in data warehousing with healthcare experience, strong SQL, and DevOps/Agile expertise. This is a senior, on-site position based in New York.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in a technical discipline; Masters degree preferred.
• 12-15 years of related experience, including 7 years designing, developing, and maintaining relational databases, data pipelines, and dimensional/OLAP warehouses.
• Healthcare data experience is preferred.
• Expert knowledge of data warehousing: 3NF & dimensional modeling, CDM, data lineage, ETL patterns.
• Experience with Epic Clarity/Caboodle, OMOP/i2b2/PCORnet data models.
• Advanced SQL, indexing, stored procedures, UDFs, sequences, dynamic SQL and data transformation tools; job orchestration.
• DevOps/SDLC best practices; Agile (Scrum/Kanban) with JIRA/Confluence; Git version control.
• Strong communication and customer service skills; ability to work with researchers, clinicians, and IT staff.
• Knowledge of Hadoop, Spark, Kafka and other big data stacks and streaming tools.

Responsibilities

• Design databases and pipelines balancing functionality, performance, cost, and development time.
• Design, build, test, and maintain data pipelines extracting, transforming, and loading data from source systems into a multi-modal repository.
• Lead project planning, work breakdown, dependency sequencing, and release management.
• Develop standards, patterns, and procedures for pipelines and warehouse maintenance.
• Mentor junior engineers in data warehousing and operational support.
• Design, build, and maintain data loading processes for flat files (csv, tsv, JSON).
• Lead design sessions, code walkthroughs, peer reviews, and produce technical docs.
• Tune database objects, stored procedures, and pipelines for performance and cost efficiency.
• Monitor operations and provide after-hours on-call support as needed.
• Collaborate with DBAs and sysadmins on backups, performance tuning, and patching.
• Deliver high-quality customer service to researchers, clinicians, and internal partners; ensure data privacy and security per HIPAA and regulations.
