Job summary

Apogee is seeking a Data Scientist to support the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command at Petterson Space Force Base, CO.

The role focuses on applying data science, statistics, and automation to mission analytics, transforming large datasets into actionable insights for space and missile defense priorities. The DS will develop reproducible pipelines, build models, and deliver dashboards while ensuring data governance and transparent methods.

Qualifications

• Experience in data science/analytics engineering/big-data environments.
• Expert Python skills; heavy use of Jupyter Notebooks/Labs and IDEs (e.g., VS Code/Spyder).
• Strong SDLC skills: debugging, refactoring legacy code, and maintaining secure/compatible codebases.
• Clear documentation and block comments; adherence to PEP-8.
• Working knowledge of data architecture and cross-team collaboration to connect data sources to mission problems.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate experience and knowledge of computer science concepts, data architecture, intelligence practices, and managing data in a big-data environment.
• Author cogent and logical scripts using Python and other languages in a virtual environment (IDE: VS Code/Spyder)
• Develop and use advanced software programs, algorithms, and models to solve complex intelligence problems.
• Debug existing Python code and refactor legacy code to ensure security and compatibility.
• Document code with block comments and adhere to coding standards (PEP-8).
• Collaborate across multi-discipline teams to connect data sources to mission problems.
• Identify meaningful insights, interpret results, and communicate findings to stakeholders.
• Evaluate technologies for data science capabilities including NLP, ML, predictive modeling, statistics, and hypothesis testing.
