Job summary

GovCIO is hiring a Data Scientist to support the VA data modernization initiative. The role is fully remote within the United States, focusing on modernizing workloads to the cloud and deploying ML models to solve critical business problems.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree in a technical field, strong Python/SQL, cloud platform experience (Databricks/AWS/Azure/GCP), and familiarity with ML tools and LLMs. Clearances for suitability/public trust are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Systems, Business or related field.
• Proficient in Python and advanced SQL for data analysis.
• 2+ years on leading cloud platforms such as Databricks, Azure, AWS, and GCP.
• Experience in end-to-end data science workflow, from identifying datasets to production, and tooling (NumPy, SciPy, MLFlow).
• Solid understanding of traditional machine learning toolboxes.
• Working knowledge of large language models (LLMs) and agentic AI workflow.
• Clearance required: ability to obtain and maintain a suitability/public trust clearance.

Responsibilities

• Consult with internal clients and build data products/workflows to support critical operations
• Migrate and modernize clients’ workload from legacy environment to the cloud to realize quantifiable improvements
• Spearhead AI adoption with clients to drive business outcomes
• Create reference use cases with supporting tutorials, reference code, and training to drive the adoption of cloud tooling for concrete business results
• Host office hours to upskill clients
• Develop, train, and deploy machine learning to solve complex business problems
