Job summary

Nelnet seeks a Senior Data Scientist to lead ML model development, data preprocessing, and analytics across diverse data sources. You will mentor junior scientists, collaborate cross-functionally, and present findings to leadership.

Qualifications

• PhD required in a quantitative or programming discipline.
• 2+ years of experience in data analysis.
• 1+ years of programming experience.
• Significant experience with large, complex data sets and common data science tools.
• Experience with database Python.
• Experience designing, building, deploying, and validating ML models in a business context.
• Experience training multi-model design for unstructured data matching.
• Experience training LLM models for specialized use cases.

Responsibilities

• Conduct advanced analyses and statistical deep dives, with actionable recommendations.
• Develop and deploy custom models and algorithms to solve complex business problems.
• Mine, clean, process, transform and join data from SQL servers, AWS, Azure, Snowflake, Salesforce, and flat files.
• Identify, wrangle, scrape, and assemble new data sources from the web and public sources.
• Build dashboards and visualizations using PowerBI from scratch.
• Present key findings to all levels including senior leadership.
• Automate processes and monitor Data Science model performance.
