Job description

For People is a team of skilled technologists improving government digital services for disadvantaged and vulnerable populations. We embed directly in government agencies to modernize software, systems, and platforms so that they better serve people.

Your Impact

As a Senior Data Scientist at For People, you will play a pivotal role in the digital transformation of federal government services. You will work with a talented team of professionals dedicated to optimizing data processes, enhancing data analytics capabilities, and building robust data governance frameworks to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of Medicaid programs throughout the country. This new project will transform how the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) leverages data to support the monitoring of state Medicaid expenditures, accurate federal claiming, and fiscal integrity across Medicaid financial management systems.

Our Culture

For People is a team of humans. We place a significant amount of emphasis on positive work-life balance, setting healthy expectations, and making sure our loved ones are taken care of first. That means picking a child up from school during the day or going for a mid-day walk is okay!

Our entire team is remote across the United States, from the West Coast to the East Coast. There will never be a return-to-office, as we have none!

This position's published base salary range is between $115,000 and $140,000 annually plus generous benefits (e.g., For People pays 100% of Gold-tier employee health insurance premiums) and annual company profit sharing.

Your Opportunities

On this project, you will be part of an agile team working on Medicaid financial oversight and operational efficiency. As the Senior Data Scientist, you will:

  • Use advanced statistical analysis on complex Medicaid data sets to perform predictive modeling, detect anomalies, develop automated rule-based checks and utilize tools like Databricks and Power BI to create dashboards and visualizations
  • Create analytics workflows to assist CMS with its responsibility to administer statutory obligations to ensure accurate federal claiming, enhance fiscal integrity and maintain consistency across Medicaid financial management systems
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of data analytics solutions that drive actionable insights and improve operational efficiencies
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assist in defining data requirements and support the establishment of data collection, analysis, and reporting standards
  • Communicate complex data findings to non-technical stakeholders, translating insights into clear, actionable recommendations
You Bring
  • A humble and caring attitude aligning with For People's values - how we work with passion, fun, curiosity, sustainability, humility, and respect.
  • 4+ years of relevant experience in data analysis, data modeling, or similar, with a preferred focus on healthcare data
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and programming languages such as SQL, Python, R, or SAS
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI or similar
  • Experience working with big data analytics platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake or similar
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
It Would Be Great If You Also Have
  • Experience with working with a social impact-focused product team or in public interest tech
  • Experience working with distributed, cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and subject matter experts
  • Candidates who have experience writing ETL pipelines and bring along data engineering skills
  • Working knowledge of Medicare, the ACA, MACRA, Medicaid, or CHIP
Additional Details

Some fine print. You will be working on a United States government platform, and they have a few basic requirements for contractors like ourselves. You must perform all work physically within the United States at all times. In addition, you must be a United States citizen and be able to pass a government-performed public trust background check.

For People is an Equal Employment Opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, genetics, and/or veteran status.
