Job summary

University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) is seeking a Scientist IV to support HAO's observational programs, focusing on data products, processing pipelines, and MLSO instrumentation. The role emphasizes ingestion, calibration, reduction, analysis, visualization, and monitoring of data to advance solar and atmospheric research.

The incumbent will conduct independent and collaborative research, publish results, and contribute to instrumentation initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree and 10 years related experience, or a Master's degree and 6 years, or a PhD and 2 years related experience, or an equivalent combination.
  • Extensive knowledge of numerical methods, computational algorithms, and mathematical modeling techniques.
  • Deep understanding of scientific software engineering, version control, and reproducible research practices.

Responsibilities

  • Develops complex computational models and algorithms for Earth system science research.
  • Optimizes scientific code for high-performance computing environments.
  • Leads development of scientific software components with emphasis on quality and reproducibility.
  • Analyzes large-scale simulation data to extract meaningful insights.
  • Collaborates with scientists to translate requirements into computational solutions.
  • Mentors team members in computational methods and performance optimization.
  • Contributes to peer-reviewed publications, reports, and presentations.
  • Supports staff development and fosters inclusive teamwork.
  • Contributes to proposal development and strategic planning.
  • Integrates multiple components to validate numerical algorithms.
  • Leads development of tools and technologies for projects.
