Job summary

The Housing Center at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) seeks a senior data scientist for an in-person role to develop and manage large datasets, derive insights, and inform US housing policy. The role involves building data infrastructure, automating data collection and maintenance, creating interactive dashboards, and leading multiple complex projects with initiative and rigor.

Master’s degree preferred, compensation commensurate with education and experience, and AEI offers

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in economics, finance, math, computer science, data science, or related field.
• Proficiency in Python, R, or Stata and ability to learn additional languages.
• Strong SQL skills and experience designing relational/analytical data systems.
• Experience with data visualization and geospatial tools.
• Experience using AI models to accelerate data collection and analysis.
• Knowledge of version control systems like Git/GitHub.
• Strong communication, organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

• Assemble datasets to inform analyses of housing issues.
• Develop models, algorithms, and metrics for data interpretation.
• Automate recurring analyses including data collection, cleaning, and visualization.
• Lead data projects from source to maintenance.
• Translate findings into interactive dashboards and visuals for researchers and the public.
• Examine data for trends and anomalies; present recommendations.
• Use APIs, web scraping, and computational methods to collect data.
• Experiment with emerging data methods including AI-assisted analysis.
• Senior Data Scientist: project-manage workflows; supervise analysts.
• Advanced predictive modeling and machine learning on complex datasets.
• Advise on best practices for data management and methodologies.
