Fora, a modern travel platform in New York City, seeks a Senior Data Scientist to own the growth operating model, forecast the business, and guide strategic decisions for founders and executives.

You will partner with Strategy & Operations, Finance, and leadership to shape targets and investments, mentor the data team, and drive cross-functional impact with a focus on real world business outcomes.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in business data science, analytics, or strategy & analytics, preferably in consumer/ marketplace models.
• Experience building financial/operating models with forecasting, regression, cohort analysis.
• Advanced SQL is essential; Python or similar scripting language preferred.
• Hands-on with a modern cloud data stack and data modeling best practices.
• Experience using LLM tools to accelerate analysis and prototyping.

About The Role

Fora is hiring a Senior Data Scientist to help us run the business more efficiently. As we scale, we’re looking for someone to own the growth operating model behind our forecasting, planning, and goal‑setting processes, and guide strategic decisions for our founders and senior leadership team.

This is a foundational role on the Data Science & Analytics team. You’ll operate as a strategic partner to Strategy & Operations, Finance, and executive leadership, helping drive decisions around growth targets, resource allocation, and strategic investments.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the growth operating model used to forecast the business, run scenarios, and steer the business week to week
• Partner with Strategy & Operations and Finance on goal‑setting and forecasting cycles
• Analyze our data to diagnose and explain our business trajectory and trends
• Size opportunities and model the impact of pricing changes and new business initiatives to inform where we invest
• Partner with executive leadership and founders to shape strategic company decisions and investments
• Raise the bar across the data team — mentor peers, establish best practices, and shape the team’s processes, tools, and standards

Requirements

• 5+ years in business data science, business analytics, or strategy and analytics. Experience at consumer or marketplace companies preferred.
• Experience building financial or operating models using quantitative methods such as forecasting, regression analysis, and cohort analysis.
• Advanced SQL skills are essential. Proficiency in Python or another scripting language preferred.
• Hands‑on experience with a modern cloud data stack (e.g. Airbyte, BigQuery, dbt, Hex, Omni, or equivalents) and data modeling best practices.
• Experience using LLM tools (e.g. Claude Code, Cursor, OpenAI Codex) to accelerate analysis and prototyping.
• Strong communication and storytelling skills.
• Deeply curious with a drive to learn.
• Pragmatic. Looking for real world business impact, not a science project.
• A collaborative and empathetic mindset with experience supporting and leveling up your peers.

Compensation

Compensation for this role varies based on experience, with an indicative range of $130K–$185K + equity. Final compensation will depend on the level at which the candidate is hired, as we’re considering multiple levels for this role.
