Job summary

Ladders is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to advance fraud and risk decisioning through applied ML. You will partner with fraud strategy and cross-functional stakeholders to improve detection accuracy, while shaping data requirements and monitoring model performance.

Remote - US-based candidates only. Compensation ranges from $152,500 to $205,000 annually. You will lead model deployment, performance tracking, and collaboration to transition from third-party signals to in-house capabilities.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in data science or applied ML focused on fraud, risk, or financial crime.
• Advanced proficiency in Python and SQL; experience with XGBoost or LightGBM.
• Ability to build models with sparse or biased labels, including cold start and chargeback lag.
• Strong statistical skills in anomaly detection and threshold optimization.
• Experience deploying and monitoring models in production.
• Effective communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Comfortable navigating ambiguity and limited historical data.

Responsibilities

• Build and evaluate fraud models for risk scenarios including account takeover and scams.
• Design the transition from third-party risk signals to in-house models.
• Define label taxonomy and data requirements for comprehensive training data.
• Measure false negatives and assess customer blocking rates through sampling.
• Track and analyze fraud metrics across customer segments.

This role will focus on advancing fraud and risk decisioning through applied machine learning and statistical modeling. You will partner closely with fraud strategy and cross-functional stakeholders to improve detection accuracy, reduce false negatives, and support safer customer experiences. The work will also involve shaping data requirements, monitoring model performance, and helping transition from third-party risk signals to in-house capabilities. Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available. Compensation: $152,500 – $205,000 annually.
