Job summary

Trane Technologies is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to lead LLM-powered agents for building energy modeling and HVAC simulations. The role requires expertise in Python, SQL, generative AI, and cloud platforms, with 3–5 years in mechanical environments preferred.

You will design end-to-end data workflows, collaborate across teams, and deliver robust ETL pipelines and validation tools while traveling 10–20% to client sites and project locations.

Qualifications

• PhD or Master’s in Data Science, CS, Statistics, or related field.
• 3–5 years of experience in mechanical industry preferred.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL; experience with generative AI and API manipulation.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and deploy autonomous LLM-powered agents interfacing with BEM/HVAC tools.
• Translate complex simulations into executable workflows and tool-calling routines.
• Prepare detailed project workflows and execute them efficiently.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams; review and provide feedback on others’ work.
• Generate ETL pipelines; preprocess datasets; develop verification/validation tools.
• Work with diverse datasets and formats; prepare reports/visualizations to communicate scope and progress.
• Prepare detailed documentation for applications.
• Utilize generative AI models via API calls in code.
• Travel 10–20%.

We are seeking a highly resourceful Senior Data Scientist to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a knack for identifying opportunities within systems and processes, leveraging existing and emerging technologies, and working effectively even with limited data availability. You will work independently with minimal supervision but be part of a larger team, collaborating and submitting work for review, while also reviewing the work of others. This role requires a proactive approach to project identification, workflow preparation, and execution. Additionally, the candidate must excel at effectively communicating with clients and peers to drive project success and advancement.

What You Will Do

• Design, build, and deploy autonomous LLM-powered agents and connectors that interface with building energy modeling (BEM) and HVAC simulation tools.
• Translate complex multi-step simulation tasks (geometry intake, thermal load calculations, equipment sizing, schedule definitions, and parametric runs) into executable agentic workflows and tool-calling routines.
• Prepare detailed project workflows and execute them efficiently.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, submit work for review, and provide constructive feedback on others' work.
• Generate ETL pipelines, preprocess datasets, and develop verification and validation tools.
• Work with datasets from multiple sources and formats.
• Prepare comprehensive reports and visualizations to communicate project scopes and progress.
• Prepare detailed documentation for applications.
• Utilize generative AI models and manipulate them through API calls in code.
• Requires 10-20% Travel

What You Will Bring

• PhD or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 3-5 years of experience in mechanical industry preferred.
• Expertise in statistics, supervised and unsupervised machine learning techniques and their appropriate uses; ability to apply common modeling best practices to build models using high-volume, asynchronous time series data.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL.
• Experience with generative AI models and API manipulation
• Experience with Pymongo and NoSQL databases.
• Strong background in working with Azure (or) GCP.
• Familiarity with Docker containers, React, Next.js, and Flask.
• Experience in rapid application development and deployment through GitHub.
• Strong understanding of ETL processes and data preprocessing.
• Ability to develop verification and validation tools.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to translate complex requirements into actionable tasks.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to prepare reports and visualizations.
