Job description

Work from home (Remote) or any of our offices - Atlanta, GA or Dallas, TX

The Company

Founded in June 2017, ConnexPay is a payments company creating game-changing technology that is transforming modern e-commerce. As an innovative financial technology and payments company, ConnexPay offers combined payment acceptance and issuance processes inside a single solution to enterprise corporations that provide intermediary services (i.e., online travel agencies, online marketplaces, e-commerce brokers, etc.). The company’s technology reduces payment risk and lowers the cost of payment acceptance. Through our people, ConnexPay is poised to become the industry leader in payments for industries historically viewed as high-risk to payment providers and sponsor banks.

ConnexPay is proud of our culture, where we focus on employee engagement and customer satisfaction. Here our people feel comfortable voicing their opinions, which helps us build a safe environment for all. We are customer-focused and truly believe that behaviors drive our culture — and our culture drives our results — always working as one team to win.

The Opportunity

The Senior Data Scientist role is responsible for delivery of modern machine learning pipelines and models within Databricks. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in machine learning and data engineering, and a deep understanding of the B2B payments industry or payments and account fraud detection solutions. This combination of technical and business domain experience will allow the Senior Data Scientist to ideate and deliver outcomes that increase the speed of decision-making, leverage ML to improve business operations workflows and develop new product offerings. This role will require collaboration in a cross-functional team environment to understand requirements that manifest in outcomes that support ConnexPay's goal to become an industry leader in payments for high-risk industries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with internal stakeholders to provide data-driven answers to strategic business questions using a variety of techniques.
  • Manage and maintain machine learning pipelines and models within Databricks, including responsibilities that cover research-through-deployment (i.e., feature engineering, containerization, orchestration, model monitoring/validation).
  • Identify new areas of opportunity for the company and prototype solutions; conduct basic market research and find external data sources to validate these ideas.
  • Build internal tools (AI-enabled solutions) that help the business team make data-driven decisions and/or automate manual processes.
  • Contribute to existing internal and external machine learning-based products via researching new methodologies, creating new measurement/validation techniques, etc. to increase efficacy and business outcomes.
  • Work with external data vendors such as LexisNexis, Experian, Equifax, etc., to integrate and leverage data for model enhancement.
  • Present key findings and insights to stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple projects and development activities independently.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or a related field.
  • 5-10+ years of experience in a data-oriented environment (analysis, engineering, science, strategy).
  • Extensive experience with machine learning in a production environment, particularly using Databricks.
  • Proven experience in the B2B payments industry or in similar areas pertaining to payments and account fraud detection.
  • Strong technical skills in data engineering and machine learning, including a high degree of proficiency in SQL and Python.
  • Experience working with external data vendors such as LexisNexis, Experian, Equifax, etc.
  • Ability to work independently and manage projects with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with a wide range of machine learning techniques, both supervised and unsupervised, and experience with frameworks such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools (e.g., Matplotlib, Seaborn, Power BI) to effectively communicate findings.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Business acumen - understand business objectives, identify problems that data can help solve and drive the solution from start to finish.
  • Developed communication and presentation skills; ability to effectively translate technical concepts to stakeholders with a wide range of technical capabilities.
  • Collaborative attitude; open to giving and receiving constructive feedback, mentoring/assisting team members and contributing to a positive work environment.

Benefits and Perks
