Job summary

Dotmatics is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the data processing and execution platform. You will architect and migrate components to Node.js/TypeScript and Python, building a robust, distributed system coordinated through Kafka, GraphQL and RESTful APIs.

You will guide engineering standards, ensure observability, and drive scalable pipelines on Kubernetes and AWS, collaborating across globally distributed teams to advance scientific discovery.

Qualifications

• Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
• Language-agnostic engineering mindset, able to work across multiple runtimes.
• Advanced experience in asynchronous processing.
• Proficiency in Node.js/TypeScript and Python for backend services.
• Experience designing distributed, event-driven systems with message buses (Kafka).
• Experience implementing automated testing platforms and tests.
• Experience with large data processing platforms (Spark/Databricks/Snowflake).
• Experience managing state across stores (message bus, relational DB, cache).
• Hands-on AWS in production and Kubernetes for orchestration.
• Proficiency with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions).
• Knowledge of Agile software development practices.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive system architecture for event-driven data processing services.
• Lead migration of components to Node.js/TypeScript and Python ecosystems.
• Improve engineering standards for distributed systems, observability, and reliability.
• Architect asynchronous data processing pipelines with at-least-once delivery guarantees.
• Ensure scalability, maintainability, and security of solutions on Kubernetes and AWS.
• Take ownership of existing services and evolve them pragmatically.
