Job summary

Caterpillar is seeking a Senior Data Engineer for the Physical AI Platform in Chicago. You will design and maintain scalable data pipelines, microservices, and cloud-based data platforms to deliver high-quality data for engineering and business teams.

The role focuses on real-time and batch processing, with strong emphasis on automation, testing, and observability. You will collaborate with AI/edge initiatives, integrate with AWS services, and drive data architecture across enterprise platforms

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in data engineering or related disciplines with increasing responsibility.
• Experience with Caterpillar data platforms such as Helios Data Platform and production-grade Python solutions.
• Strong SQL skills with data quality and validation practices.
• Experience deploying software using CI/CD tools (Azure DevOps, Jira, Jenkins).

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and microservices.
• Develop cloud-native data ingestion and streaming solutions using AWS services such as Kinesis, S3, DynamoDB, EventBridge.
• Translate requirements into scalable data architectures, workflows, and mappings.
• Implement automated testing and data quality controls across distributed data ecosystems.
• Monitor performance and reliability with non-stop data platform observability (CloudWatch).
• Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders to deliver reliable data platforms at scale.
