Technology & Systems

The Technology & Systems department drives technological innovation for the company and advances the technology strategy to support global growth. This includes IT, Software Development, OT / Automation Systems, and business process improvement. At Vantage, we are very hands on. In most cases, we specify, purchase, configure and maintain all networking and server hardware. We also work closely with partner VARs to learn about the latest technology changes so we can make informed purchase decisions. The department participates in designing each of our new data center building’s networking infrastructure, including diverse pathways connecting to carriers, meet‑me room (MMR) hosting (rack, cabs, ladders, cross‑connect panels…), wireless AP coverage, etc. We rely on extreme collaboration with Sales, Construction, Operations and Corporate Functions to drive simplification, establish global standards with continuous improvement and speed to value.

Position Overview

This can be based on-site at our office in Denver, CO. in alignment with our flexible work policy (3 days on site required, 2 days flexible). Vantage Data Centers is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to help evolve and scale our enterprise data platform. This role will build and optimize high‑performance data pipelines while integrating Microsoft AI tools such as SharePoint AI, Azure AI Foundry, and Fabric to enable advanced analytics and intelligent applications. As a key contributor within the Technology and Systems team, you will bridge traditional data engineering with emerging AI capabilities, ensuring our data platform is prepared for automation, search, and predictive insights. You will collaborate with teams across the organization, including Human Resources, Operations, Finance, Sales, Procurement, Legal, and other business functions, translating business challenges into practical, data‑driven and AI‑enabled solutions that deliver measurable impact.

Essential Job Functions

Design, build, and optimize scalable, secure data pipelines and data platform solutions using modern Microsoft cloud PaaS and SaaS technologies.

Integrate AI capabilities into the data platform using technologies such as Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Search, Azure AI Foundry, Cognitive Services, and other emerging Microsoft AI services.

Develop data models and curated datasets that enable advanced analytics, AI‑driven applications, and intelligent search experiences.

Collaborate with business analysts, data scientists, and stakeholders to translate requirements into practical data and AI solutions.

Implement data quality, governance, security, and performance optimization practices to ensure reliable and scalable data systems.

Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior data engineers, promoting engineering standards and best practices.

Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, and platform design decisions to maintain a consistent and scalable enterprise data platform.

Evaluate emerging technologies and participate in technical risk assessments to support the evolution of the organization’s data and AI capabilities.

Contribute to a collaborative engineering culture through strong communication, ownership, and teamwork.

Duties

Design and implement secure, scalable data platform frameworks aligned with modern cloud architecture principles.

Develop and maintain scalable data models that support analytics, AI workloads, and enterprise reporting.

Contribute to data and AI platform architecture following Microsoft Well‑Architected Framework and cloud best practices.

Define and document security considerations, controls, and governance practices for protecting data and platform assets.

Assess the impact of new technologies, architectural changes, and platform enhancements on the organization’s data architecture and security posture.

Maintain clear and comprehensive technical documentation covering platform architecture, design decisions, and engineering standards.

Communicate emerging data, analytics, and AI technologies to the engineering team to support platform evolution.

Job Requirements

Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in data engineering or data platform architecture.
  • Proficiency in Python (or equivalent programming language) for building and maintaining data pipelines, automation, and data processing workflows.
  • Proficiency in SQL for querying, transformation, and performance tuning across relational and analytical data stores.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling, ETL/ELT pipelines, and modern data integration patterns.
  • Experience analyzing enterprise data sources to identify data relationships, transformations, and business rules.
  • Experience building solutions on the Microsoft Azure platform with exposure to services such as Azure Databricks, Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL Database, PostgreSQL, Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2, and Power BI.
  • Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines using DevOps tools such as GitHub or Azure DevOps.
  • Strong knowledge of dimensional data modeling including fact and dimension tables and star or snowflake schemas.
  • Working knowledge of networking and security fundamentals, including internet protocols, firewalls, and proxy configurations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across teams in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Experience working in Agile development environments.
  • Experience using collaboration and project tracking tools such as Jira or Microsoft Project.

Bilingual in English/French or English/German is considered an asset but not required.

Travel required is expected to be up to 10% but may increase over time as the business evolves.

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience working with large‑scale datasets and distributed data processing frameworks.
  • Familiarity with AI‑enabled data solutions including Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Search, Azure AI Foundry, Cognitive Services, or similar technologies.
  • Exposure to additional Azure services such as Azure Functions, Logic Apps, Power Apps, and Azure API Management, with the ability to evaluate and integrate platform capabilities as needed.
  • Experience delivering technical training, documentation, or mentorship related to data and analytics tools.
  • Exposure to data platform modernization or cloud migration initiatives.
  • Familiarity with continuous improvement practices such as Lean, Six Sigma, or operational excellence frameworks.
  • Experience supporting enterprise collaboration platforms such as SharePoint, including governance and knowledge management models.

Additional Details

Salary Range: $140,000-155,000 Base + Bonus (this range is based on Colorado market data and may vary in other locations).
