Job summary

Leidos is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to support the Department of Veterans Affairs ATLAS program. This role focuses on building reusable ingestion, transformation, and validation capabilities for the Summit Data Platform, across multiple workgroups.

Remote work within CONUS is allowed, with security and time-zone requirements for Eastern Time collaboration. Applicants should be prepared for after-hours support during critical outages or planned maintenance, and mentor teams on reusable data

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/IT/Engineering or related field; 10+ years of relevant data engineering experience.
• Hands-on production data ingestion, ETL/ELT, transformation, and validation pipelines using SQL and Python.
• Experience with cloud data platforms and services in Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud; understanding of storage, orchestration, and secure data access.
• Experience with data modeling, source-to-target reconciliation, data quality testing, and pipeline monitoring.
• Ability to document data flows, dependencies, and procedures; collaborate with engineers, analysts, and data owners.
• Demonstrated experience designing reusable production data engineering frameworks or shared services; independently resolve complex integration issues.
• Experience improving data engineering delivery through automation, testing, CI/CD, or standardized deployment patterns.
• Ability to obtain and maintain VA Public Trust suitability (Tier 2/Moderate Risk).

Responsibilities

• Design and implement reusable data ingestion, transformation, orchestration, and validation frameworks aligned with the Summit roadmap and enterprise architecture.
• Lead engineering of shared pipeline templates, data-quality gates, lineage instrumentation, and automated deployment or recovery patterns.
• Optimize cloud data processing for performance, reliability, and cost; establish practical measures and tuning recommendations.
• Provide guidance on data integration, semantic modeling, and federated query capabilities; collaborate with architecture and governance leads.
• Integrate automated testing, observability, CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and secure access controls into production data engineering workflows.
• Troubleshoot cross-platform failures and data-quality issues; coordinate root-cause analysis and operational readiness.
• Mentor engineers and promote adoption of common capabilities across teams.
