Job summary

Atrium is seeking a Senior Data Engineer - AWS to own enterprise data pipelines and build scalable cloud data architecture. You will collaborate with Data Science, Analytics, and business stakeholders to deliver reliable, scalable data solutions while contributing to a collaborative Engineering team.

The ideal candidate has expert SQL and extensive AWS data engineering experience (Glue, Lambda, S3, Athena, EMR, Redshift) and can mentor junior engineers.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in Data Engineering or a related field.
• Expert SQL skills with complex querying, optimization, and performance tuning.
• Strong AWS data engineering experience (Glue, Lambda, S3, Athena, EMR, Redshift).
• Ability to design scalable data architectures and enterprise data warehouses.
• Experience building and optimizing ETL/ELT pipelines and data models.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and enterprise data warehouse architecture within AWS.
• Build and optimize complex SQL queries, ETL/ELT processes, and data models.
• Leverage AWS services including Glue, Lambda, S3, Athena, EMR, and Redshift.
• Develop and maintain data schemas, dimensional models, and warehouse structures.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize data pipelines for performance and reliability.
• Implement data quality checks, validation rules, and automated monitoring processes.
• Collaborate with Data Science, Analytics, and Business teams to support enterprise data initiatives.
• Maintain technical documentation, data lineage, and engineering best practices.

Position Overview

This is a hands-on opportunity to take ownership of enterprise data pipelines, build scalable cloud-based data architecture, and optimize a modern AWS data environment. The ideal candidate for the Senior Data Engineer - AWS role will have expert-level SQL skills, extensive experience with AWS data technologies, and a strong background in data architecture and enterprise data warehousing. This individual will work closely with Data Science, Analytics, and business stakeholders to deliver reliable, scalable data solutions while contributing to a collaborative Engineering team.

Required Experience/Skills For The Senior Data Engineer - AWS

• 5+ years of professional experience in Data Engineering or a related technical field.
• Expert-level SQL skills, including complex querying, optimization, and performance tuning.
• Strong hands-on AWS data engineering experience, particularly with Glue, Lambda, S3, Athena, EMR, and Redshift.
• Proven experience designing and implementing scalable data architectures and enterprise data warehouses.
• Strong understanding of ETL/ELT pipelines, data modeling, and data integration.
• Experience troubleshooting production data pipelines and ensuring data quality.
• Ability to independently own technical projects from design through deployment.
• Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship. Visa sponsorship is not available.
• Must be able to work on-site in NYC four days per week.

Preferred Experience/Skills For The Senior Data Engineer - AWS

• Experience with dbt (data build tool) and modern analytics engineering practices.
• Python or PySpark proficiency.
• Experience with dimensional modeling, star schemas, and data warehouse optimization.
• Previous experience mentoring junior engineers or working with offshore teams.
• Familiarity with data governance, observability, and automated data quality frameworks.

Education Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Engineering, or a related field is preferred, or equivalent professional experience.
