Job summary

Prescient Edge is seeking a Sr. Data Engineer to lead the technical vision for integrating multiple applications, services, and data initiatives into a cohesive, scalable platform for a federal government client.

You will act as the primary technical authority on architecture, integration strategy, and system-level design across frontend, backend, and data science efforts. The role requires 12+ years of relevant experience, strong communication, and expertise in distributed systems, web stacks,

Qualifications

• 12+ years of experience in the labor category, with recent work within last 2 years.
• Experience designing and integrating distributed systems or service-oriented architectures.
• Strong communication skills for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience with modern web stacks including React or similar frontends, Python-based APIs, and PostgreSQL.
• Experience integrating cloud storage solutions into existing systems.
• Experience operating in containerized and Kubernetes environments with external infrastructure.
• Knowledge of NIST STIGs, REST API design, and contracts between microservices.
• Ability to define and own platform-level architecture across multiple teams or products.

Responsibilities

Overview:

We are seeking a senior technical leader to define and drive the technical vision for integrating multiple independent applications, services, and data initiatives into a cohesive, scalable platform.

This role will serve as the primary technical authority responsible for architectural decisions, integration strategy, and system-level design across frontend, backend, and data science efforts. The successful candidate will work closely with product ownership and engineering teams to establish clear boundaries, responsibilities, and contracts between systems while ensuring solutions are practical, scalable, and aligned with long-term organizational goals.

Description:

• Define and own the overall technical architecture for a platform composed of multiple services, applications, and data products.
• Support teams without micromanaging, enabling autonomy within clear architectural guardrails.
• Make final technical decisions regarding service boundaries and ownership, shared vs. isolated infrastructure (e.g., databases, storage), integration patterns (APIs, eventing, shared libraries, contracts).
• Establish architectural standards, patterns, and guiding principles to ensure consistency across teams.
• Translate products into scalable, maintainable system designs compatible with the security requirements for the deployment environment.
• Produce architectural artifacts such as high-level system diagrams, interface and microservice contract definitions, integration and deployment standards.
• Identify technical risks and tradeoffs early and guide teams toward pragmatic solutions.
• Guide the transition of data science projects from prototypes to production-ready, scalable services.
• Define integration patterns for: Data access, model outputs and UI consumption of data and analytics

Desired experience:

• 12+ years of experience relevant to the specific labor category with at least a portion of the experience within the last 2 years.
• Experience designing and integrating distributed systems or service-oriented architectures.
• Strong communication skills, able to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience working with modern web application stacks, including: Web frontends (e.g., React or similar frameworks), backend services (e.g., Python-based APIs) and relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL)
• Experience integrating cloud storage solutions (e.g., object storage) into existing systems.
• Experience working in containerized and Kubernetes-based environments, especially where infrastructure is externally managed.
• Strong understanding of practical implementation of NIST STIGs for software applications (Security Technical Implementation Guides), API design (primarily REST) and contracts between independent microservices, data ownership and integration patterns and system scalability and maintainability.
• Proven ability to define and own platform-level architecture across multiple teams or products.

Desired education:

• Master’s degree in an area related to the labor category from a college or university accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Security Clearance:

• Security clearance required TS/SCI with CI POLY or the ability to obtain CI POLY.
