As the nation's largest homebuilder by volume, D.R. Horton is transforming how it uses data, AI, and digital solutions for the next generation of homebuilding, and we pair the reach of a national enterprise with a culture built on local ownership, practical innovation, and deep business partnerships. In this role, you'll have a critical opportunity to shape modern capabilities that will influence how the company operates for years to come.

D.R. Horton, Inc. is currently looking for a Senior Data Engineer. The Senior Data Engineer will help build the modern data foundation that powers trusted analytics, AI, and digital solutions. This role will design and deliver reliable pipelines, reusable data products, automated quality controls, and engineering patterns that make enterprise data easier to use and scale. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on engineer who takes ownership, enjoys solving complex data problems, and wants to help establish stronger engineering practices for the future. Success in this role means pipelines and data products that business partners trust and reuse, delivered with automated quality and minimal production firefighting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Architect and implement end-to-end data pipelines that ingest, transform, and serve data from diverse source systems, construction management platforms, financial systems, and external market data feeds
  • Design comprehensive data models for multiple business domains, establishing naming conventions, modeling standards, and documentation practices
  • Lead initiatives that span multiple business domains and solves complex, ambiguous data challenges
  • Identify and resolve systemic data quality issues; implement monitoring frameworks, alerting mechanisms, and automated validation routines that improve overall pipeline reliability
  • Define and enforce code standards, branching strategies, testing expectations, and CI/CD practices, ensuring consistency and maintainability across the codebase
  • Lead technical design reviews for new data initiatives, evaluating architectural options and recommending solutions based on cost, performance, and long-term maintainability
  • Collaborate with analytics leadership, business intelligence developers, and data science practitioners to ensure data products meet downstream consumption requirements, including latency, granularity, and accuracy expectations
  • Mentor Data Engineer 1 and Data Engineer 2 team members through code review, pair programming, and direct technical guidance
  • Partner with IT and source system teams to manage data contracts, API integrations, and schema change communications
  • Research and evaluate emerging data technologies and platforms, presenting findings and concrete recommendations to analytics leadership
  • Conduct all business in a professional and ethical manner to serve customers and increase the goodwill and profit of the company
  • Ability to travel overnight
Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, or a related field required or equivalent education and experience
  • 5--8 years of professional data engineering experience, including substantial experience designing data architecture and leading technical delivery of data pipeline and modeling projects from inception through production
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical projects from design through production deployment, coordinating work across engineers and stakeholders
  • Ability to guide and develop junior engineers while maintaining personal delivery commitments on assigned work
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree preferred
  • Knowledge of cloud data platform capabilities, pricing structures, and architectural trade-offs
  • Understanding of data governance frameworks, PII handling requirements, and data security practices
  • Knowledge of software engineering best practices as applied to data systems
