Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with computer vision data and workflows incl. image/video ingestion and labeling.
• Strong programming in Python and SQL (C# a plus).
• Experience with cloud data platforms (AWS S3, Glue).
• Proven data ingestion, transformation, and validation at scale.
• Comfort with APIs, containerized services, and system integration.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to technical direction.

Responsibilities

• Architect and scale reliable data pipelines and datasets with end-to-end ownership.

• Contribute to deep learning model implementations and production workflows, including CV model integration and CI/CD.
• Mentor data engineers and raise engineering bar.

We're seeking a Senior Data Engineer to architect and scale the pipelines, datasets, and systems that fuel our products, analytics, and AI models, with a particular focus on the computer vision workloads powering our next generation of rail safety products. This is a senior, high-ownership role: you'll set technical direction for how we handle image, video, and time-series data at scale, and you'll mentor engineers building alongside you.

What You’ll Do

• Architect and scale reliable data pipelines and datasets supporting products, analytics, and ML and computer vision workflows, with end-to-end ownership from ingestion through production
• Design scalable data ingestion, processing, and labeling pipelines across structured and unstructured data (time-series, image, video), including large-scale image and video datasets used to train computer vision models
• Lead automation of data collection, labeling, and delivery workflows, reducing manual effort and accelerating model development across the AI team
• Own data quality validation, observability, and monitoring standards, including defining what "production-ready" means for data feeding computer vision and ML models
• Establish and maintain dataset versioning, lineage, and reproducibility practices across training and testing datasets, and set the standard other engineers work to
• Act as a systems thinker in partnering with engineering, AI, and product teams, connecting pipeline design decisions to downstream model performance and business impact
• Contribute to deep learning model implementation and production workflows, including computer vision model integration, APIs, and CI/CD testing pipelines
• Mentor other data engineers, review technical designs, and raise the bar on engineering practices across the team

What You’ll Bring

• BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• 5+ years of experience building and scaling production-grade data pipelines, including experience owning systems end to end
• Hands-on experience with computer vision data and workflows: image and video ingestion, labeling pipelines, dataset preparation, and/or deploying computer vision models to production
• Strong programming skills in Python and SQL (C# a plus)
• Deep experience with cloud data platforms (e.g., AWS S3, Glue) and the judgment to choose the right tool for the problem
• Proven experience with data ingestion, transformation, and validation workflows at scale
• Comfort with APIs, containerized services, and system integration
• Demonstrated systems thinking: the ability to see how a pipeline decision today affects model performance, cost, or reliability downstream
• Experience mentoring engineers or leading technical direction on a team, even informally
• Strong attention to detail with a focus on data accuracy, availability, and production readiness
• Agile mindset and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, iterative environment

Work Environment

Hybrid in Bolingbrook, IL: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in office, with Monday and Friday worked remotely or on site as business needs require. Ability to board a locomotive for field research. Occasional domestic and international travel may be required.
