Job summary

Google's Hardware Operations team leads the state-of-the-art data center infrastructure supporting its search technology. As Hardware Operations Manager, you’ll supervise Data Center Technicians, ensuring quality installation of server hardware and components, and lead complex installations and troubleshooting.

Your team will configure and maintain hardware and server software, including networks, routers, switches, and related protocols.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10 years of experience managing technical teams in charge of installing, configuring, testing, troubleshooting, or maintaining hardware servers and its components.
  • Experience in site-level data center operational leadership.
  • Experience in site-level operational leadership and localized metrics management (KPIs/SLOs).
  • Ability to work non-standard hours, including working weekends, night shifts, holidays and on shift-based schedules as required.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day management of Data Center Technicians and Managers, providing coaching to achieve goals.
  • Lead installation, configuration, testing, troubleshooting and maintenance of server hardware and components.
  • Own outcomes for deployment and ongoing maintenance involving networks, storage, compute and AI infrastructure.
  • Manage projects and contingency plans for high-risk operational transitions.
  • Coordinate with global computing and network architectures for problem resolution and optimization.

US: $164000 - $237000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits

  • Oversee the day-to-day management of technicians and managers, providing coaching and development to achieve strategic business goals.
  • Drive the implementation of safety culture and Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) initiatives at the site level, ensuring a safe work environment.
  • Be accountable for localized metrics, including KPIs, SLAs, and SLOs, while identifying opportunities for process optimization.
  • Manage the implementation of technical projects, identifying and resolving problems within global computing and network architectures.
  • Oversee local budget allocations and manage third-party contractors and vendors to support site operations. Assist in building a robust talent pipeline and support succession planning within the technical team.
