Job summary

LinkedIn is hiring a Data Center Engineer to support the DCE team responsible for the lifecycle management of data center infrastructure. The role focuses on electrical and mechanical systems, power and cooling, and collaboration with providers and internal teams to meet stringent availability targets.

Hybrid work arrangement with multiple potential U.S. locations, including Mountain View, Hillsboro, Richardson, Plano, or Manassas.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, or related).
• 10+ years of experience defining, designing, constructing, commissioning, operating, or maintaining mission-critical infrastructure.
• 7+ years of experience leading data center design, construction, field engineering, commissioning, or major infrastructure retrofit programs.
• Experience evaluating electrical and mechanical infrastructure interdependencies, system redundancy, and failure scenarios within mission-critical environments.
• Experience collaborating with colocation providers, engineering consultants, contractors, commissioning agents, equipment manufacturers, and internal operations teams.
• Ability to develop clear, consistent, and actionable technical documentation for use by engineering, operations, capacity planning, and other partner teams.
• Ability to manage multiple concurrent mission-critical initiatives and communicate risks, tradeoffs, and recommendations to leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead site selection and technical evaluation of data center engineering documents and data hall fit-outs.
• Lead due diligence and infrastructure negotiations for colocation leases and expansions.
• Develop and maintain system-level resiliency and redundancy models for load distribution and failover sequences.
• Oversee design and construction of new data centers, expansions, and retrofits.
• Lead liquid‑cooling deployment strategy and provide data‑driven recommendations to leadership.
• Perform advanced electrical and mechanical calculations and analyses to validate performance and capacity.
• Lead data center design standardization and maintain Basis of Design documentation.
• Oversee commissioning and IST of new data center spaces and upgrades.
• Evaluate and approve new electrical and mechanical systems to ensure reliability across the fleet.
• Develop operational-readiness requirements and contingency plans in partnership with operations teams.
