Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems LLC seeks a Senior Data and Operations Software Engineer to join the Data and Operations Software group. You will develop distributed systems and APIs for data acquisition, access, and processing, collaborating with physicists and engineers to deliver high-performance data services.

Expect to work in a fast-paced, innovative environment, writing Go and Python code, and leveraging Linux, Docker, and Git tools. Equity and comprehensive benefits accompany the role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field.
• 7+ years relevant experience in backend software engineering.
• Proven experience as a backend software engineer working on distributed systems and REST APIs.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative, and innovative environment.
• Proficiency with Python.
• Proficiency with Golang or similar language suitable for web services.
• Familiarity with Linux and development tools such as Git, GitHub, and Docker.

Join the power movement as a Senior Data and Operations Software Engineer

The Software Engineering team is seeking an experienced and motivated backend software engineer to become a member of the Data and Operations Software group. The group is responsible for the company’s data services and as a backend software engineer you will play a crucial role in developing the APIs and distributed systems that facilitate data acquisition, access, and processing capabilities within the company. You will work closely with physicists and other software engineers to create robust and high-performance data systems tailored to the unique needs of our groundbreaking work in the field of fusion energy.

What you'll do:

• Develop the distributed systems and services that provide data acquisition, access, and processing capabilities within the company
• Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code in Golang
• Write a user-friendly Python client library
• Collaborate with physicists, diagnosticians, and other engineers to gather user stories and translate the resulting requirements into code
• Optimize backend performance to improve data ingestion, retrieval, and processing times
• Help make fusion energy a reality by making it possible to collect, retrieve, and analyze data from simulations and experiments

What we’re looking for:

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field (computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, etc.)
• 7+ years relevant experience
• Proven experience as a backend software engineer working on distributed systems and REST APIs
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative, and innovative environment
• Proficiency with python
• Proficiency with Golang or similar language that is suitable for web services
• Familiarity with Linux and development tools such as Git, GitHub, and Docker

Bonus points for:

• Experience in developing software for mission-critical applications
• Experience with real-time data collection and visualization
• Experience with very large volume data collection
• Some familiarity with front-end frameworks such as React

Must-have Requirements:

• Perform activities such as typing, standing, sitting, etc. for extended periods of time
• Dedication to safety to mitigate industrial hazards that may include heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics
• Willingness to occasionally travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call

$140,000 - $200,000 a year

Salary range for this full-time position + equity + benefits. The actual salary will depend on level, location, qualifications, and experience. The range displayed on each job posting reflects new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Benefits include:
