Job summary

Schnabel Inc. is seeking a Senior Dam Safety Engineer for our Chattanooga, TN office to grow our dam engineering practice in the Southeast. You will lead significant dam projects, manage client relationships, and mentor engineers within an employee-owned firm.

The role involves leading evaluations, rehabilitation, design, and construction of embankment and concrete dams, spillways, outlet works, and related water infrastructure, with opportunities for field work and travel across the region.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• 12+ years of relevant engineering experience in dams and related hydraulic structures.
• Professional Engineer licensure and ability to obtain Tennessee PE within six months of hire.
• Substantial experience in evaluation, design, rehabilitation, or construction of dams.
• Demonstrated technical leadership leading multidisciplinary dam projects.
• Experience managing engineering projects including scope, schedule, budget, and staffing.

Responsibilities

• Lead dam safety evaluations, investigations, rehabilitation studies, designs, risk-informed studies, and construction-related services.
• Serve as project manager, technical lead, or senior reviewer for complex multidisciplinary dam projects.
• Develop engineering recommendations for dams, spillways, outlet works, and related structures.
• Provide senior technical direction and review analyses, drawings, specifications, and other deliverables.
• Plan and manage projects, including scope, staffing, schedule, budget, and financial performance.
• Lead multidisciplinary teams and coordinate resources across Schnabel offices.
• Build and maintain relationships with dam owners, utilities, and government agencies; pursue new opportunities.
• Mentor engineers and provide technical and project-management guidance.
• Participate in risk assessments, studies, and comprehensive dam safety reviews.
• At Senior Associate level, take broader responsibility for major projects and client relationships.
