Job summary

The Los Angeles Times is seeking a Senior Cybersecurity Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and ongoing management of our security architecture across cloud, on-prem, and hybrid environments.

You will partner with IT, Engineering, and Product teams to implement security controls, perform threat hunting, and guide incident response to protect critical newsroom and enterprise systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field required and 8+ years of experience in cybersecurity, security engineering, information security, or related technical roles OR 10+ years of experience.
• Demonstrated experience implementing and managing enterprise security technologies.
• Experience leading complex security initiatives and incident response efforts.
• Strong knowledge of network security, cloud security, endpoint security, IAM, and security architecture principles.
• Experience with SIEM, EDR, vulnerability management, IDS/IPS, and security monitoring platforms.
• Experience securing cloud environments (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Familiarity with security frameworks (NIST, CIS, ISO 27001).
• Scripting/automation skills (PowerShell, Python).
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain enterprise security solutions across cloud, on-premises, and hybrid environments.
• Lead development and enhancement of security architecture aligned with business goals.
• Evaluate and recommend security technologies and controls.
• Partner with engineering teams to integrate security into system design and development.
• Lead investigations of security incidents and conduct threat hunting.
• Develop incident response playbooks and remediation strategies.
• Coordinate containment, eradication, and recovery during incidents.
• Conduct vulnerability assessments and prioritize remediation based on risk.
• Oversee security monitoring platforms, dashboards, and response workflows.
• Ensure compliance with security policies and regulatory requirements.
