Job summary

Housing Works in New York City seeks a Senior Custodian to clean and maintain the ENY Residence, perform painting and minor repairs, and help with building fixtures.

The role follows a custodial plan, keeps spaces sanitary and stocked, and supports apartment turnovers using trade skills. Work is in a fast-paced environment with some independent decision-making.

Compensation Range: $20/hr - $24/hr commensurate with experience

Overview:

The Senior Custodian is responsible for cleaning and maintaining Housing Works’ East New York Residence (ENY) and its grounds, painting and plastering, and conducting minor carpentry, plumbing, and mechanical repairs on building fixtures, equipment, and hardware.

Responsibilities:

Primary:

• Adhere to the custodial and preventative maintenance plan to ensure that the buildings’ common spaces, bathrooms, offices, residential spaces, Laundry Rooms, and the building’s grounds are clean, sanitary, and properly stocked with supplies.
• Put out trash at the buildings in accordance with NYC guidelines.

Secondary:

• Assist in the apartment/room turnover process by cleaning out and preparing apartments for new residents, utilizing trade skills for minor repairs, e.g., carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, roofing, and heating and cooling.

Requirements:

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Experience with and proven commitment to working with low-income and marginalized communities, as well as individuals with multiple chronic medical and/or behavioral health conditions.
• Demonstrated ability to think critically and exercise good judgment, as well as the ability to work independently and collaboratively with minimal day-to-day supervision in a fast-paced environment.
• Exceptional computer software skills, including MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and working familiarity with Salesforce or similar platforms.
