Job summary

UCSF is seeking a Custodian to maintain campus spaces, including laboratories and medical areas. Under supervision, you will clean, stock, and report building needs while following safety and security protocols.

Candidates should have a background in custodial cleaning operations and strong English communication skills, with a California driver license preferred. The role supports UCSF’s mission by maintaining a clean, safe environment across facilities, ensuring supplies, equipment, and spaces

Qualifications

• Six (6) months in a custodial cleaning operations, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
• Ability to read and communicate clearly both verbally and in writing
• Ability to speak clearly in English; Ability to follow written and oral instruction in English
• Excellent customer service skills
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations
• Ability to use powered and manual floor-cleaning and polishing equipment; ability to use dollies, hoists, and other moving aids
• Knowledge and ability to apply appropriate cleaning methods, including specialized procedures and techniques for laboratory and medical spaces
• Knowledge of applicable security regulations and the ability to follow established security protocols

Responsibilities

• Identify essential functions and allocate time per task.
• Clean both internal and external campus spaces as assigned.
• Load and unload trash receptacles and transport recyclables.
• Fill soap and towel dispensers and report equipment needs.
• Ensure security of assigned spaces and perform specialized cleaning in laboratory and medical spaces.
• Move, set up, and take down furniture and appliances as required.

The UCSF Facilities Services Department (FS) is committed to creating an exceptional campus physical environment to support the research, teaching, health care and community service mission of the University. FS is organized into 7 operating units: (1) West Campus/Parnassus Operations, (2) East Campus/Mission Bay Operations, (3) Engineering & Utilities, (4) Infrastructure & Renewal Programs, (5) Customer Service & Technology, (6) Custodial Services, and (7) Office of the AVC, including Administration & Communications.

Under supervision of the Custodial Assistant Superintendent, the incumbent cleans both internal and external

campus spaces. Loads and unloads trash receptacles, collects and transports recyclable materials. Fills soap and

towel dispensers, reports on building equipment and supply needs, ensures the security of assigned spaces,

performs specialized cleaning in laboratory and medical spaces, and moves, sets up, and takes down furniture and

appliances as required.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Required Qualifications
