Job summary

Qualifications

• Familiar with federal, state and local statutes/regulations affecting Human Services, Dependency and Neglect, and obligations of alcohol/mental health commitments.
• Ability to develop long-range plans reflecting policy and philosophy for state and county social services.
• Ability to prepare and administer budgets, including budget development, implementation and control.
• Knowledge of practices and procedures for financial, procurement and administrative management.
• Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with staff, peers, elected officials and the public.

Responsibilities

• Directs and manages the legal position for the Human Services Division and represents The People of Colorado and the county in relevant matters.
• Leads policy development and sets standards for legal positions and procedures.
• Oversees staff in the Human Services legal division, including litigators and in-house counsel.
• Provides legal advice to the DHS Director and management on policies and statutes.
• Supervises release of records in compliance with laws and manages civil contracts for DHS.
• Coordinates civil litigation and legal services for the People and the DHS.
