Job summary
University at Buffalo's Educational Opportunity Program seeks a Senior Counselor to provide extensive academic, personal, financial aid, and career counseling for a caseload up to 150 students. The role supports talented students overcoming barriers to higher education through advising, workshops, and mentoring tailored to student success.
The Senior Counselor will diagnose academic needs, document progress, and coordinate services across faculties to strengthen student outcomes and readiness
Qualifications
- Master's degree with 1 year of experience in academic advising and/or counseling.
- Experience in a higher education environment.
Responsibilities
- Advises students on course selection from entering freshmen to graduation.
- Diagnoses skill strengths and weaknesses and develops academic and programmatic prescriptions.
- Reviews and documents student progress on a monthly and semester basis.
- Helps students understand and manage academic and social expectations and challenges.
- Assists students in resolving conflicts between personal values, abilities, and educational and career goals.
- Keeps students informed of all financial assistance, honors, recognition, scholarships, and other training or employment opportunities.
- Serves as a coordinator for specifically assigned student service support areas and as a liaison between EOP and designated faculties, and Schools.
