Job summary

MetLife seeks a Regulatory and Group Benefits Counsel within Government & Legal Affairs to provide practical advice on insurance regulatory matters, especially for vision plans in government programs in the United States. This role focuses on strategic risk-based guidance to enable growth while safeguarding the company's interests.

The position requires a J.D., NY Bar eligibility (or equivalent), 7–10 years of relevant experience including managed care, and hands-on AI/legal tech proficiency.

Qualifications

• J.D. degree from an accredited law school.
• Admitted to NY Bar or eligible with prompt commitment (or relevant bar); ability to obtain in NY office.
• 7–10 years of relevant legal experience, including at least 2 years advising managed care on government programs.
• Hands-on experience with generative AI, legal technology, and workflow tools in substantive legal work.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic, risk-based legal and compliance guidance on federal/state insurance, managed care, and government program requirements.
• Monitor regulatory developments and translate them into actionable business recommendations.
• Draft, review, and negotiate client, provider, and vendor agreements, mitigating legal and business risk.
• Leverage technology and contract management tools to improve efficiency, consistency, and risk visibility in contracting processes.
• Support growth and decision-making with practical legal counsel aligned to objectives.
• Own and improve key legal workflows including intake, triage, contracting, approvals, escalations, and knowledge management.
