Job summary

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is seeking a Special Assistant General Counsel to provide comprehensive legal counsel to agency leadership and program staff. The role focuses on licensing, adoptions, permanency issues, and coordination with the Attorney General's Office on appellate matters.

The ideal candidate will have a law degree, an Illinois license to practice, and several years of relevant legal experience within a governmental or public sector setting.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited law school.
• Valid Illinois law license required.
• Three years of progressively responsible administrative experience in the practice of law.

Responsibilities

• Provides legal advice and counsel to the agency's central office management and professional staff.
• Provides advice and counsel to staff of the Division of Licensing regarding licensing rules, statutes, and procedures.
• Provides legal advice and counsel to program staff concerning adoptions, guardianship, permanency goals, and other initiatives.
• Represents the Department in administrative hearings and licensing appeals.
• Coordinates with the Attorney General's Office on state-level appellate cases.
